July 18, 1755

This is to certify that I do by these presents give my consent and approbation 
for my daughter Lucy Seat to intermarry with John Sammons, Given and in my Hand 
and Seal this 17th day of July 1755.
Signed Robert Seat, his hand and seal.

To the clk of the Court of Sussex County or his Deputy, Witness: Thos. Moore 
Junr., and William(his X mark)Hollis.

The original marriage bond is also recorded in the early marriage records in 
Sussex County and was entered into by John Sammons and Nathanel Johnson on 
July 18, 1755.

John Sammons purchased 39 acres of land on the South side of The Great Swamp from Major 
Tiller and Bertha, his wife, on February 16, 1758 for the sum of 4 pounds "current money 
of Virginia."  The deed was witnessed by Thomas Mason, John Mason, Junior and Thomas Morris.

1771 - Robert Sammon, orphan of John Sammon, dec'd, aged about 6, bound to John Hicks.
1772 - Seat Sammond, orphan of John Sammond, aged 10, bound to John Ellis, Jr.

Hubbard and wife Mary Hubbard, Charles Sledge and wife Elizabeth Sledge of Albemarle Parish 
to John Morgan of the same for 4 lbs. 67 acres on both sides of the Great Swamp and bounded 
by Henry Gee and JOHN SAMMONS on the south side of the Great Swamp, the said Morgan, JAMES 
SAMMONS, JR., Charles Sledge, Matthew Hubbard and the Poplar Spring Branch (LUCRETIA SAMMONS, 
ANNE SAMMONS, Mary Hubbard, Elizabeth Sledge relinquished their Right of Dower).

With:  David Mason, James Hubbard, WILLIAM (X) SAMMONS and Isaac Rawlings.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, the Twentyeth day of July, in the year of our Lord
Christ One Thousand seven hundred & Sixty five 

I JOHN SAMMONS of Sussex County, being of sound & disposing mind & memory
(thanks be to God for the same) & calling to mind the certainty of death & the
uncertainty of this Transitory life do make constitute & ordain this my last
Will and testament in manner following (that is to say) First I recommend my
soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it to me hoping for salvation
through the merits of my blessed redeemer (Jesus Christ) and my body I commit
to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter
mentioned; and for my worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me
with after my just debts are paid, I give & dispose of as follows.

IMPREMIS  I lend unto my loving wife LUCRETIA SAMMONS during her natural life
all that part of my land & the plantation whereon I now live that lies above
the Great branch next above my mother's, supposed to be about Thirty Acres.  I
also lend unto my said wife all my stocks of horses, cattle & hogs & household
furniture during her natural life.  After that my just debts are paid.  And my
further will & desire is that after my wife's death the same tract or parcel
of land so lent unto her shall be sold together with the personal estate (if
any) by my Executors or the surviving one of them or their heirs, for the best
price that can be held for the same & the money ariseing from such sale to be
equally divided amongst my loving children which shall be then living.

ITEM  I give & bequeath unto my Friend CAPTAIN HENRY GEE, & to his heirs &
assigns forever, all that part of my tract or parcel of land that lies above
where I now live which I bought of MAJOR TILLER it being Thirty nine Acres the
same HENRY GEE having already paid me a full consideration for it & if he
shall not be satisfied with this devise, I do desire & do hereby require that
my Executor or Executors may give him his heirs or assigns a deed for the
same.

ITEM  I do hereby authorise impower & direct that my Executors or Executor do
sell all that part of my tract or parcel of land whereon my mother now lives
that lies below the Great branch next above my Mother's, supposed to be about
forty five acres with the appurtenances thereunto belonging for the best price
that can be got for it & the money arising from the sale thereof to be first
applyed to the discharge of my just debts & that my executors do make over &
convey the same land by a sufficient deed or deeds for that purpose to any
person who shall purchase the same.

AND LASTLY I do hereby nominate and appoint my loving Friends DAVIS MASON &
ROBERT SEAT my whole & sole Executors of this my last will & testament hereby
revoking & disannulling all former wills & bequests by me heretofore made; &
do declare this & no other to be my last Will & Testament.  In Witness whereof
I have hereunto affixed  my hand & seal the day & year first above written.

At a Court held for Sussex County the 21st day of August 1766.

The last Will & Testament of JOHN SAMMONS dec'd was presented into Court by
DAVID MASON one of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto as the
law directs & the same was proved by the oaths of HENRY TUDER JUNIOR & JOSEPH
HARRIS, two of the witnesses thereto & by the Court ordered to be recorded &
on the motion of the same Executor Certificate is granted him for obtaining a
probate thereof in due form.

JOHN SAMMONS of Albemarle Parish and wife, LUCRETIA SAMMONS, to Henry Gee of the same for 
6 lbs 39 acres on north side of the Three Creeks and bounded by a pine in the Great Swamp, 
said JOHN SAMMONS, land Henry Gee bought from Thomas Underwood, said Gee and Nathan 
Nortington and the land bought by JOHN SAMMONS from Major Tiller (which was granted said 
Tiller on 10 Sept 1755).
