The James II Sammons family lived near the Isle of Wight and Surry County Line, which changed to the Sussex and Southampton County line. Isle of Wight County Book 3 Page 334 November 28, 1740 James II Sammons was a witness to the will of Thomas Smith. Isle of Wight County May 12, 1747 between James Salmon of the County of Isle of Wight "planter" of the one part and Thomas Briggs of the County of Surry "planter" of the other part... 170 acres... Also on the same date, the deed was recorded, James Salmon acknowledged his deed of bargain & sale to Thomas Briggs, and Phillis Salmon wife of the said James being first privily examined relinquished her right of dower to the land mentioned in the said deed, which is ordered to be recorded. Test. Jas. Baker C. CLK. Isle of Wight County Page 96 Indenture between James Salmon and Thomas Briggs, for 75 acres of land, for twenty pounds. Patent Book 29 Pages 175-177 June 1, 1750 Land Patent granted to James II Sammons in Surry and Isle of Wight counties for 265 acres in Surry Co. Sussex County Deed Book A Page 30 September 9, 1754 For the "consideration of twenty pounds current money of Virginia", "Beginning at a pine on the South side of THE GREAT SWAMP just below the mouth of a small branch". Deed Book A Page 34 On October 14, 1754, James II Sammons granted William Sammons 133 acres of land. (This land was part of the 265 acres that James Sammons acquired through the 1750 land patent.) WILL OF JAMES II SAMMONS Sussex County Will Book B Page 64 IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I James Sammons of Albermarle Parish in the County of Sussex being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind & disposing memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same, do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament in, manner and form following, that is to say, first and principally I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner and for my worldly estate I give and dispose of the same manner and form following viz: ITEM I give and bequeath to my Daughter AVEY SAMMONS to her and her heirs forever one feather bed & furniture. ITEM I give and bequeath to my beloved wife PHILLIS SAMMONS all the rest of my estate let it be of what kind or quallity soever to her and her heirs forever. ITEM My will and desire is that my Estate be not appraised. LASTLY I do nominate and appoint my Son WILLIAM SAMMONS whole and sole Executor of this last Will and Testament disanulling and making void all former wills by me heretofore made In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty five.
