Sussex Co Deed Book F - Page 310
September 17, 1784
Thomas Sammons gave his son Hardy Sammons 66 acres of land, which was one-half of the 130 acres that James II Sammons had granted to Thomas in 1754.   Deed Book G - Page 735
January 16, 1792 Thomas deeded the other half (65 acres more or less) to Hardy. Witnessed by: Thos. Mason, Littleton Mason, David Mason, William Grizzard, Allen Jones Burrow, Wm. Peebles, and Cary Mosly. The following document is also included with the bond: "Sir, you will please to grant Mr. Hardy Sammons a license to be married to me and in so doing you will much oblige me July 31st 1815 Rosanah King (by mark) James C. Bailey, Clk of Sussex Court. Sussex Co January 20 1817 Book M - Page 166 Hartwell Overby of Orring County North Carolina deeded 35 acres of land to Hardy Sammons. The land was adjacent to Crecy Tuder's dower line, and the deed shows that Hardy Sammons paid $110.00 for the land. The deed indicates that the land was adjacent to the lands of Lazarus Long and James Long. Allen and Sally migrated to Hardeman Co. TN, for they were found in the 1830, Page 366, and 1840 Census, Page 290. 1850 Hardeman County TN Census HH-560 Page 107 Allen Sammons 62 m Bapt Minister O.S. 2725 VA Sarah 55 f VA John 17 m TN Howell 15 m TN Joseph 12 m TN Another son, Wiley W. Sammons, was listed in a Tennessee History Book as follows: "Elder Wiley W. Sammons, a prominent farmer of the Cedar Chapel District, was born in Hardeman County on November 11, 1827. His parents were Allen and Sallie (Long) Sammons, both of whom were of English extraction born in Sussex County Virginia, the father in 1788 and the mother in 1795. They were married in 1811, remaining in their native state until 1827 when they came to Hardeman County, being among the early settlers. Eleven children blessed their union. Mr. and Mrs. Sammons were zealous Christians. For thirty-three years he was one of the most faithful and active ministers that the Primitive Baptist Church ever had. All his efforts in the noble work were given without price or money. In his connection with his ministerial duties he engaged in farming and was one of the most prosperous agriculturists of the County. He was a fife major in the War of 1812. He was a strong straight Democrat. He departed this life in 1862, and two years later the mother, too, passed away." Wiley was raised on a farm, receiving a fair education. He remained beneath the paternal roof until he attained manhood's estate, then began farming on his own responsibility, and met with unusual success. Twice he was financially wrecked - once by war, and again by parties whom he assisted when they were embarrassed and they afterward proved faithless. Being possessed of a brave heart and much determination, he was soon again in flourishing circumstances, and now owns 312 acres of valuable land. For twenty-six years he has labored as an Elder without pecuniary consideration of any kind, although he has ridden thousands of miles between North Mississippi, West Tennessee and Western Kentucky, he has never served for a salary. In 1850 (October 10th), he married Miss Martha F. Wilkes, a daughter of Joseph and Naomi Wilkes. Mrs. Sammons was born October 16, 1834. A true Christian woman, and member of the Primitive Baptist Church, she died in 1885 (August 31st)."
