CLAIBOURN CRAWFORD

Claibourn was born April 26, 1805 on Millers Creek, Estell Co. Kentucky to Archie and Margaret Brown Crawford and came with his family to Bear Creek in the spring of 1815. He married Susanna Jett June 5, 1831. Susan was born June 5, 1812 in Estill Co. Ky to Stephen Jett, Sr. and Rachel Milar. When Breathitt County was formed in 1839, Claibourn was a magistrate for the new county. He also served as Postmaster at the Bear Creek Post Office from February 11, 1859 to January 9, 1864 when the Post Office was closed during the Civil War. He was shown as a farmer in the 1850 census with a real estate valued at $3500.00 with nine children in his household. along with wife, Susan. In 1860 census five of the children still lived at home with him and his wife, also his father, Archibald was living in the household. Claibourn died August 9, 1895.
