James Cemetery, near Drynob,
Missouri
Located on the old James Homestead on the Osage
River just off AC Highway close to where it intersects Early road.
It is located in Osage Township 34N, Range 14 West, section 16. It is on
the north side of the Osage River.
In 1912
James R. & Quilliana (James) Wrinkle owned this property.
Quilliana received the land from her father George R. James.
The property is now owned by Ron Reid. The
land is gated to keep the cattle in and a short distance away from the
road there is a second gated area where the cemetery is. We just
happed to run into Ron while there and he unlocked the cemetery for us.
When I visited this cemetery in 2001 it needed to
be cleaned up. My dad went back to the cemetery in 2002 Ron had cleaned
it up.
According to the Laclede Co., MO Rural Cemeteries
book volume II there was to be three stones with the only legible
name of ‘James’, however, due to the overgrowth we were unable to find
them in 2001. When my dad went back in 2002, he found the James
gravestones below.
The
Laclede
County Historical Society published this book and it reflects names
of all the grave sites in this cemetery.
Do not
forget to put bug spray on your legs and ankles before going here.
