Midway Camp - 1930sThe Lebanon Daily Record, Tuesday, May 30, 2000 This photo of the old Midway Camp, located 12 miles from Lebanon on old Route 66 in Phillipsburg, was submitted by Ruthene Shank Calton of Springfield. The business was managed by Ed and Blanche (Bennett) Shank, and it provided full service for the automobiles, and people traveling up and down the highway, carrying a full range of "Standard Oil Products" and specialized in tire and tube repairs. It also boasted "drive-in cabins," a separate ladies' restroom, which was a luxury back in those days. There also was a cafe where full meals and short orders could be whipped up on a moment's notice by Mrs. Shank. Many famous people stayed the Midway, including "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Pretty Boy Floyd". 1931 Phillipsburg Farmers ExchangeThe picture and information below was from my grandma Nora Rich's personal photo collection.
