William Alonzo Vancil was entrusted with the care of his elderly uncle John M. Vancil as they traveled to Cincinnati for John to receive medical treatment for a cancer on his face. William wrote a number of letters back home, and Esther Puhek was kind enough to send me these copies:
John Vancil's cancer was not cured, and he died not many months after the Cincinnati excursion. His nephew Imri Byars Vancil wrote an obituary for John, and his brother Edmund C. Vancil eulogized John in a poem. These, and information about the Vancil Cemetery are posted here, again provided by the helpful Esther Puhek.
