On 29 Mar or 1 Apr 63 Col. John F. Philips' detachment of Co. D, 7th Cavalry MSM in west Cedar County chased Kincheon West's body of irregular Rebels for some hours according to US War Dept, "The Official Records of the War of the Rebellion," (hereafter referred to as "O.R.") government printing office, Wash. DC, Series 1, Vol. 22, Part II, pp. 184-5 and Broadfoot Publishing Company, "Supplement to the 'Official Records'," Wilmington, NC: Broadfoot Publ. Co., Part II, Records of Events, Vol. 35, 7th Cav MSM, p. 437. The latter source says the Union cavalry looked for West's band because they "...were plundering and robbing the country." The only casualty reported was one Rebel killed.
