Wanted
James Bush 1739/1808, his
origin & Parentage
There is no doubt James Bush was in Washington County
by ca 1776/77Based in part on the following pages
(exhibit 1 thru 3) from
History of South West Virginia1746-1786, Washington County 1777-1870, by Lewis
P. Summers.
Various land grants i.e.
Grant
#18, 80a 1788 Washington County (Exhibit
#4) Grant #36 80a 1776 Russell County (Exhibit
#5) Grant #46 1800, Washington County (Exhibit
#6) and various other grants which copies are available., also proves his
residency as Washington/Russell County.
The only document we have
indicating James Parentage, is a document from the Library of Virginia (Gordon
Aronhime Papers) stating James is the son of Philip Bush. (Exhibit
7) We have Philip Bush will which does not mention a James Bush?
We know from other records i.e. land grant #40
Amherst County 1771 (Exhibit
#8) & Grant in book c, p488 dated 1772, Amherst County
(Exhibit #9) Plus Census records showing James & his children being from
Amherst County Virginia.
We can safely say James migrated from Amherst to
Washington County ca 1776.
We now have a document from a page (355) in the book Scotch-Irish Settlement in
Virginia, Vol. I,
Augusta, County Court Records.
(Exhibit #10). Showing James of Amherst in 1769.
Can we conclude James is of Scotch-Irish descent therefore could not be
the son of Philip Bush of English descent??
James Bush vs. Thomas Francis
Taken from book
Scotch-Irish
Settlement in Virginia, Vol. I,
Augusta County Court Records, Page 355
(Exhibit #10)
Note: Any documented
clues to whom James Belongs or where he originated, would be greatly
appreciated, but no speculation, as I have too much of that myself.
