Last Will and Testament of Esther Clemens Ziegler


Esther Ziegler left a will on 28 October 1798.

Esther Ziegler nee Clemens was born 11 January 1731 and died the widow of William Ziegler on 07 November 1798. William was the son of the Rev Michael Ziegler and Catharine Schrauger, he was also the brother of Christopher Ziegler and of the Michael Ziegler Esther appointed as her executor. She was also known as Hester.

The transcript of the Will read:
Be it known whome it may concern that Ester Ziegler, Widow did this twenty eighth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand and ninety eight make this my last Will & Testament in manner following that I to say and do hereby order that all my just debts & funeral expences be fully paid and discharged by my hereafter named Executors and I further will unto my son Michael Ziegler my block & Copper Kettle.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Catharina wife to Michael Frot all my cloath or cloathing articles, my bed ljudain except six of my Shifts---
Item. I give and bequeath unto my Graddaughter Elizabeth and daughter of my son Jacob my new bed case and chalf bag and six of my Shifts and I do hereby further order that the remaining part of my houshold Goods and furniture be sold by publick vandue and the money so arising out of such sale together with the money I have outstanding is to be divided into four equal parts and shares viz t .
One equal share to my son (my son) Michael
one other equal share unto my son Garret and one equal part to my daughter Catharina wife to said Michael Frack and one equal fourth part thereof unto my hereabove named Granddaughter Elizabeth or Elizabeth Ziegler daughter of my son Jacob Ziegler and I do hereby further order and _____is my will that that part of my money standing in the hands of Michael Franck is to be paid one year after my decease and that without Interest for and during the whole time it was in his hands till the day or one year after my decease
And ___do hereby nominate and appoint my trusty friends Michael Ziegler my Brother in law and Henry Sweitzer to be the Executors of this my last Will and Testament to execute and fulfil the same to all intents and purposes. In Witnefs whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the day and year first above written.

Signed, Sealed published & declared by the said Testerix as her last Will & Testament in the presence of
Jacob Clemens Abraham Yerger

Personally came each of the Witnefses to the forgoing Will & being affirmed according to law did say they were personally present and did see Hester Ziegler the Testatrix within named Sign & seal & heard her pronounce & declare the same to be her last Will & Testament and that at the doing thereof She was of a perfect sound disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge that they subscribed their names as the Witnefses at the request of the Testatrix in her presence and in the presence of each other.
Be it remembered that on the 13 th day of November 1798 the foregoing Will of Hester Ziegler was proved in due form of law & Letters Testamentory granted unto Michael Ziegler & Henry Sweitzer Executors therein named they being first affirmed well & truly to perform the same & render an account according to law. Given under my hand & Seal & Registered the 13 th day of November 1798.
