Vader2

Jacob Vader, born August 12, 1791

He almost certainly started life as a Vedder

Jacob Vedder can be found in the "Vital Records of Naskayuna Reformed Church, 1783-1860" Baptismal 04 Sep 1791 Father: Jacob Vedder Mother: Margarietie Wieck - It lists his date of birth as August 12, 1791

December 25, 1811 Jacob Vedder/Vader was married to Elizabeth Altenberg. They reportedly had 11 children before her death in 1846. It was after her death that Jacob Vader moved west, eventually settling in Iowa.

Elizabeth Altenberg's father, Wilhelm Altenburg, was a Hessian with the Prinz Carl regiment. These were mercenary soldiers who fought for the British during the revolutionary war. According to Hessian records, Wilhelm deserted his regiment in August,1782 to settle in America.

Jacob Vedder can be found in the 1830 census of Genesee County, Bennington N.Y. on the same page as William Altenberg, probably his brother-in-law.

I descend from Jacob and Elizabeth's son, David Winslow Vader, born January 11, 1824 in Bennington, New York. David Vader served the Union Army during the civil war, he enlisted 8/11/1862 while a resident of Atkinson, Illinois. During a battle at Riceville, Tennessee he was captured and sent to the infamous Andersonville Prison Camp. He was exchanged 4/1/1865, according to the American Civil War Database.

David Winslow Vader married Caroline Crook, March 3, 1850 in Illinois. Caroline was the daughter of Asa Crook and Mary Dustin, born January 1, 1832 in Edwardburg, Michigan.

My grandmother, Nedra Vader, was the daughter of David and Caroline's youngest child, James Garfield Vader.

James Garfield Vader was born December 24, 1879 in State Center, Iowa. On June 5, 1907 he married Dennie F. Vannoy at Marshaltown, Iowa.

I believe Jacob Vader's parents were Jacob H. Vedder, born 1/28/1749 and Margarietie Wieck, D.O.B. unknown. Though not proven, it is believed this was a second marriage for Jacob after his first wife, Catharina Hall, died.
The baptismal record I came across from Naskayuna(aka Niskayuna)Reformed Church, seems to support this belief.

The previous generation was Harmanus Corset Vedder, born 6/29/1717. who was married to Tryntje Van Heemstraat, born 9/27/1713 . This family lived in Niskayuna, New York.
