Allen Hood lived in North Carolina until the early 1830’s when he moved to Cocke County Tennessee.
His known children were: Mary Polly, October 10, 1814 in North Carolina; James; Pete; Joseph (Barrs), March 20, 1831 in North Carolina. A fifth child may have been Betsy Roberts, according to Mrs. Mae Linebarger.
Mary Polly married Hunter Clark May 7, 1832 in North Carolina. Hunter Clark was born in 1806 to John Hunter and Cassandra Clark. The children of Mary Polly Hood and Hunter Clark were James Allen, February 8, 1832 in North Carolina; Cassandra, 1835 in Tennessee; Juda Caroline, March 1, 1839 in Tennessee; Hugh, March 11, 1841 in Cocke County, Tennessee; Mary born 1842 in Tennessee; Nancy born 1844 in Tennessee; Tipton born 1848 in Tennessee. Hunter died in 1848 at Del Rio, Tennessee. He was buried at the Clark Cemetery, Deep Gap Baptist Church, Tennessee.
Mary Polly Hood Clark and her brother, Barrs Hood (who married Harriet Jane Ellison) went to Texas (in the 1870's) along with the Ellison family, the Proffits, and the Hugh Clark family. My information says "This group came to Texas through Arkansas--having stayed in Arkansas a few months because of an Indian uprising." (Jack Clark) Polly died in 1903 in Burnet County. Polly never knew anything but hard times. When walking to visit her brother Barrs at Smithwick, she would remove her shoes and carry them to keep from wearing them out.
Nothing is known about James or Pete except that they left for Texas before the rest of the family.
Barrs Hood married Harriett Jane Ellason November 29, 1855 in Tennessee. Jane, daughter of Jacob Ellason and Hannah Cleary, was born October 22, 1837. Barrs died March 29, 1915 and Jane died March 11, 1912. Barrs and Jane were buried at Pleasant Valley, Texas. They had five children Mary Elizabeth Caroline, April 17, 1857; John H., September 4, 1858; Joseph Mitchell, March 21, 1860; Jim A., September 15, 1861; Hugh Abraham, May 19, 1863.
