Absalom Phears was son of Pleasant Phears and Isabell Childress Phears. Absalom was born August 9, 1797 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. In the early 1800's he moved to Missouri where he married Jane Blankenship. Absalom and Jane had 11 children: William, 1825; Pleasant, 1828; Thomas, August 24, 1830; Nancy, 1833; McDonald, March 1, 1835; Absalom H., January 22, 1837; James, 1838; Sallie Emma, February 12, 1841; Virginia, 1843; Valera, 1846; and Mary Elizabeth, 1850. The Phears moved to Texas in the 1840's.

William married Sarah Mary Jane Layne (Lane)June 1, 1851. Pleasant married Mary Catherine Yortz January 12, 1855. Thomas married Sarah Jane Layne February 12, 1859. Nancy married John H. Tucker March 19, 1856 and later John H. Bulls on July 11, 1868. McDonald married Sarah Vinson on April 28, 1862 and then Elizabeth (Betty) Clemmons/Clemons on August 14, 1867. Absalom married Mary F. Clemmons/Clemons on January 18, 1872 and later Nancy Lou Watson on November 10, 1875. Sallie married Isaiah Johnson on December 6, 1865. Virginia married T.A. Green September 5, 1870. Valera married Elihu Bates June 1865.

Absalom and his family can be found on the Washington Co., Texas census in 1860. Absalom died in 1869. In 1870 Jane was living with her son Absalom. Jane is found on the 1880 Washington County census living with her son Thomas, who is also widowed at this time. Jane died after 1880 and is buried at Mt. Zion Hill Cemetery, Washington County, Texas.
