With increasing sense of the loss suffered in the passing of Miss Mattie Phears kindred and friends in great number express deepest sorrow. Her understanding, loveing kindness, patient and devoted work in discharging all duties and missions that life brought as commissions to her heart and hands endeared her to all whose lives touched hers in any sphere of living. With her father and sister Miss Mattie Phears came to Hamilton county forty-five years ago, and has lived continuously in the same home in the Ohio community, near Sardis church, all though the intervening years of her stay on earth and the transition of her lofty spirit to Christ's Haven of Rest. Miss Phears was the last of her immediate family to "cross the tide," her parents, brothers and sisters having gone on before. A devoted sister-in-law, Mrs. Mattie Phears, of Jonesboro, survives to mourn with the other relatives and friends of the noble woman who has joined the losts Over Yonder.
