Will of Job Cherry (1725 - 1814), Martin County, North Carolina

In the name of God, Amen. I, JOB CHERRY, of the State of North Carolina and County of Martin, being of sound mind and Memory, Blessed be God; knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do this Twenty Third day of February, one Thousand Eight Hundred and Eleven, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and for form following to wit.

First of all, I commend my Soul into the hands of God, who give it me and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor as I shall hereinafter mention.

Item, I lend unto my son, Abner Cherry, the land and plantation I now live one, during his life and after his death to belong to Job Cherry, son of Abner Cherry; to him and his heirs forever----

Item, I lend unto my son Abner Cherry, one house and lot in the town of Williamston, formally belong to Jonathan Cherry, during his natural life and after his death the same to belong to Edmund Cherry, Son of Abner; to him and his heirs forever----

I lend unto my son, Abner Cherry, one Negroe man named Sharper(?), during his natural life and after his death, I give the same Negroe to John Cherry, Son of Abner; to him and his heirs forever----

Item, I give unto my son JOSHUA CHERRY, one Negroe man named Dick; to him and his heirs forever----

Item, my will and desire is that my Negroe Lid and Delia, be sold at the discretion of my Executor and the money so arising to be Equally divided between my two daughters, Mary Beach and Ruth Kennedy; to them and their heirs forever----

Item, I leave and bequeath unto my son Job Cherry, one Negroe boy named, Coswell; to him and his heirs forever----

Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Jerry Cherry, one Negroe boy named, George; to him and his heirs forever----

Item, my will and desire is that my Executors shall first cause out of my estate four hundred and eight dollars; the same I give unto my three sons Joshua, Job, and Abner Cherry to be equally divided between them; thence to them and their heirs for ever----

Item, my will and desire is that all the residue of my estate be sold and the money so raised be equally divided between my six children, to wit: Mary, Ruth, JOSHUA, Jeremiah, Job, Abner; to them and their heirs forever----

covered forward and I hereby make and ordain my son Abner Cherry and Jesse Cherry, Executors to this, my last will and testament in witness whereof I, the said Job Cherry, have to this my last will and testament, set my hand and seal this day and year above written - - - (the words underlined before signed), the
