NISBET
The Boar's heads are found in the Coat of Arms of all the Nisbet Families of Scotland. It has been told that King William II (1087-1100) of England was hunting wild boar in the forest. The King was pursued by a boar, and was in danger. His companions, with the exception of one man, fled and sought their own safety. This one stayed with him, slew the boar, and saved the King's life. The King told the man to kneel down before him and remove his helmet; which differed from the other Clans, in that it had a piece which came down to protect the nose. The King then touched the shoulder of the kneeling man and said, "Arise, Sir Nisbet". To this incident is due the design of the Coat-of-Arms

Our first Nisbet to immigrate to the United
States - James sailed from Belfast, Ireland in 1789 and landed in Charlestown
South Carolina. He came to the U.S. with 6 brothers and maybe with his
uncle James Nisbet. He is buried at Hopewell, Georgia. He and his family
settled in Laurens, South Carolina. They were strict followers of Oliver
Cromwills group "Covenanters" Around 1800, they moved to Creek Indian lands
in North Georgia.
