	 Samuel ALLEN (316), born 15 Apr 1773, Manchester, Bennington, VT,
 died 27 Feb 1864, Madrid, St.Lawrence, NY, son of Jonathan Har-
 sham ALLEN (606) and Margaret HOFFCUT (610). SOURCE NOTES: !Our

 Publishers, 1894. He settled at Chateaugay, NY, cleared a
 farm; later moved to Waddington on Banks of St. Lawrence being
 one of the first 3 settlers (p234). (p322) Samuel Allen was the
 first to commence a settlement on the banks of the St. Lawrence
 river in Lisbon. He with his family and others came from Ver-
 mont. Allen settled just below the Galloup rapids, in February,
 1797, but sold out in 1802 and went to Madrid. Also in History
 of St. Lawrence County N.Y. by Durant page 287: "Waddington is an
 old settlement--the first white family living in a hut every mem-
 ber dressed in deerskin were found by Samuel Allen in 1797---they
 disappeared shortly after this. Mr. Allen was the next settler
 (the 14th Nov. No land was sold until 1798. The title of
 Waddington with the exception of islands in the survey--the town-
 ship of Madrid which had been laid out and the patients by
 (patents?) the state several years before. NAME: Middle name may
 not be Russell - that could be from town in write up in "Our
 County..." BIRTH: Our County (Curtis) said Wilsborough, Vt.
 This could be Willsboro, NY.in 1770; (or perhaps Wardsboro, VT or
 Willsburgh Town, Clinton Co, NY) Birth year 1774 in 1860 cen-
 sus. M.Boyd has b. Manchester, VT
