(Don't leave without looking at the very bottom of this page)

1. Charles Stewart: b. 16 Jul 1797, Kentucky, occupation: Carpenter, m. (1) 9 Sep 1824, in Clark Co., Ohio, Susanna Elder, (daughter of Robert Elder and Ann Ingram) m. (2) 18 Dec 1832, in Clark County, Ohio Sarah McIntire, b. 4 Jun 1803, Ohio, (daughter of John McIntire and Elizabeth Long (?)) d. 29 Jun 1901, Coles Co., Illinois. Charles died 20 Aug 1849, Harmony Twp., Clark Co., Ohio, buried: Plattsburg Cemetery, Clark Co., Ohio.

That Charles Stewart married a Susanna Elder in Clark County, Ohio, in 1824 is well documented; that it was this Susanna Elder whom he married, although not proved, is extremely likely. There was no other Susanna Elder in the area at the time.

During the summer of 1828, Charles Stewart built the cupola for the original courthouse in Springfield, the county seat of Clark County; he received $480. He and James S. Christie put in some of the wood work. The courthouse was completed in October, 1828. Fifty years later, the building was torn down to make way for a new one.

On July 4, 1827, Charles Stewart purchased from William McIntire, for $300, a tract of land in Springfield Township of Clark County. Nine years later, on April 4, 1836, he purchased a lot in the town of Vienna, in Harmony Township, from McClung Huffman for $125. A little over three months later, on July 25, 1836, he and Sarah Stewart sold the tract of land in Springfield Township to McClung Huffman for $800. The next year, on September 25, 1837, he and Sarah Stewart sold the lot in Vienna to Emanuel Mayne for $120.

Sarah: After Charles Stewart died, Sarah married John Henry, 22 October 1851.
