Whitmel (abt 1777 North Carolina - bef 1850 Troy, Madison County, Illinois)

Whitmel  married  Susana HALL (abt 1789 North Carolina - ).  They married 20 Mar 1807 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

    Nancy married Thomas S. MCMAHAN in Madison County, Illinois.

2 - John (8 Jan 1811 Lincoln County, North Carolina - 21 May 1880 Marine Twp., Madison County , Illinois)

    John married Adaline Matilda "Matilda" HINCH (21 Sept 1814 - 30 May 1898) 1830 Madison County, Illinois)  

    John and Matilda are buried in the West Cemetery in Alhambra, Macoupin County , Illinois.  John is buried in the West Cemetery, Alhambra, Macoupin County, Illinois.

3 - William (ABT 1813 Rutherford County , Tennessee - )

    William married Eliza LOYD on 4 Dec 1834.

4 - Charles (abt 1816 Madison County, Illinois - )

    Charles was in the military in Macoupin County , IL.

5 - Sarah (abt 1820 Madison County , Illinois - )

6 - Rebecca Jane (1823 Madison County , Illinois - Madison County, Illinois)

    Rebecca married James A. STEELE 16 Apr 1840, Madison County, Illinois.

7 - Enoch (1826 Illinois - )

    Enoch married Jane PIPER 27 Dec 1849, Madison County, Illinois.  He then he married Eliza Jane PIPER.

9 - Harrison (1829 Madison County, Illinois - )

    Harrison married Margaret FARIS 10 Oct 1850 Madison County, Illinois.  His second marriage was to Nancy Ann PIPER 1 Jan 1856 St. Clair County, Illinois.

Harrison Harrington was in the Fifth regiment. Mustered at Alton, in 1846, sworn in for during the war. Thence they were transported to New Orleans, and from that place were ordered to Tampico, from which place they were transported by vessel to Vera Cruz. Was in Patterson's Division and under Gen. Scott. This regiment participated in several skirmishes, but was in no general engagement. They marched to the city of Mexico, but after its capture, they were mustered out at Alton, IL, in August, 1847.   This came from "The History of Madison County" by W. R. Brink

    Susan married Levi GRAHAM 2 July 1848 Madison County, Illinois.

Whitmel was in the 1812 Madison County , Illinois Census - Whitmill Herinton pg. 093 Goshen, John Herrington pg. 094 Goshen.

Whitmill Harrington 39.67 acres, $1.25 an acre, Federal Sale, section 19, section part E2SE Twp 95N, Range 06W, Meridian 3.

Census:

1820 Madison County, Illinois census as Whitmell Herington living at house #594: 1 free white male over the age of 21 & 7 other free white inhabitants with 8 people of colour.

1830 Macoupin County, Illinois census as Whitmill Harrington, with 3 males & 3 females.

1840 Macoupin County, Illinois census as Whitwell Harrington again with 3 males & 3 females. 

Some land purchases I have found for Whitmel in Madison County, Illinois in 1829, 1831, 1838 & 1840. 

Whitmel was one of the early settlers of Madison County, Illinois.  He was an extensive trader and lived in many arts of the county.  He died while visiting his daughter in Troy, Illinois.  His home was in Macoupin County, Illinois at the time.

He was Captain in 23rd Regiment of Tennessee 13 Aug 1807.  And was a commissioned officer in the Tennessee Military 1796 - 1811 Robertson County, Tennessee.  He is on the Tennessee tax list 1811 - 1812 Davidson County.
