SOURCE: Numerous sources: including source who wishes to remain anonymous, a descendant of brother Godfrey; "Monocacy and Catoctin" C.E. Schildnecht, ed., Biedel Printing House, Shippensburg, Pa 17257, 1985. According to (hand-written notes), "Elder" Daniel died Nov. 9 or 10, 1797, and his burial site is now lost; will was dated Nov. 4, 1797 and probated Jan 31, 1798.

In Chapter 6, "Brethren
Pioneers", co-authored by Bonnie Everhart and C.E. Schildnecht, in "Monocacy and Catoctin", much is devoted to the activities of "Bishop Daniel Leatherman"; these authors note that "Over recent years he" (Schildnecht) "has joined with other researchers"........(compilers note: these other researchers have data that do not in all cases agree with Schildnecht - check your sources!)...... ... "in research of Bishop Daniel Leatherman
and his home on Catoctin Mt. (falsely located previously)." "In western MD Daniel Leatherman became Bishop over 7 congregations. Historian Henry named 5 of these congregations as Baltimore, Antietam, Ellerton (Grossnickle's), Pipe Creek, and Beaver Dam."

"Elder Daniel lived for "decades" on his "German Plains" farm at Ellerton, MD. His wife, Catharina, survived her husband, but date of death and place of buriel are unknown. There is speculation she may have accompanied some of her children "West", possibly to Fayette Co. or Wash. Co. PA, to Ohio or to Indiana".

Daniel married Maria Katarina (Leatherman) Boyer Catharine, daughter of Johan Adam Boyer and Anna Rosina (Boyer), about 1752. Maria was born on 22 Jun 1733 in Hellam Twp., York, PA. She died after 9 Sep 1785.

SOURCE: First found in York County, Pa., Orphans Court settlement of estate of father, Adam Boyer (Johan Adam Beyer) in 1761: "And that the same Peter Boyer (oldest son of Adam) do also pay unto Daniel Lederman of Frederick County in the province of Maryland and Katarina his wife, one of the daughters of the said intestate (Adam) the like sum of twenty eight pounds, four shillings and one penny farthing, in one year from this date, and also pay this said Daniel Lederman and Katarina his wife the further sum of nine pounds, eight shillings and one farthing in one year after the death of Rosina the now wife of Michael Bigler late, Rosina Boyer, widow and relect of said Intestate." Our "local source", who wishes to remain anonymous, adds in her handwritten notes:
"She survived her husband, Daniel Leatherman. Date of her death, and place of burial are unknown. There is speculation she may have accompanied some of her children 'west', possibly to Fayette County or Washington County, Pennsylvania, to Ohio or Indiana."
She was mentioned in her mother's will, dated 9 Sep 1785.
