Per "Grossnickel Descendants in Maryland and Indiana", Carol Constance Boyer, Denver, CO., 1983 = "To Indiana 1865 with parents. In 1870 & 1880 & 1900 census in Chester Twp., Wabash Co. Bought 2 land parcels (59 acres & 3 acres) in 1882 & 1883 from father; sold acreage 1884 & 1889; bought N. Manchester town lots 1889 & 1892. Farmer till 1904?, then moved to N. Manchester, Chester Twp.; trustee (1890's) & postmaster (1904-1909) there. Owned & operated canning factory 1895-1907??; formed road-and-bridge construction company in 1897? with son Melvin; also leased stone quarry near Wolcott, Ind.; 1929-1942. For many years had yard-long beard braided & tucked inside vest, but trimmed it to vandyke style in later years. After retirement, walked mile or more daily to downtown till 2 wks. before death at 92 yrs." Died "of stroke".

We (Dennis, Jean, Michael & Missy) visited in Jennie's home the summer before her death; we photographed as she displayed her family antiques. We have pictures of the "Bake Oven"; a beautiful oak corner cabinet (which sold for over $2500 at auction in spring, 1992) - and Paul and Jennie's framed marriage certificate!. (Among other things) The most valued picture to me, Jean, is of Jennie, herself, who had kept well out of the camera's eye until I "Caught" her showing the bake over. Seeing she had been captured, she grinned and shook a finger in my direction, as if to say "you got me, didn't you?"!

(Her great grandmother). "When her (Minnie) husband died she kept son Louis; Francis went with grandfather; Paul went with Cliff and Effie Cramer Johnson, cousin to Minnie. The Johnsons had lost a son, Noah, and had a crippled daughter named Margery. Paul's being with them didn't work out and he ended up in an orphanage until he was 13 or 14, then on his own".
