October 23, 1922.

"Paternal Great Grandfather"
Antonio Petillo, aged 65, died at his apartments, 23 Davis Street, at 8 pm yesterday. Mr.Petillo had been a resident of this city for 35 years. He was a member of the local L.S.I.A. lodge,. Surviving is one son, Joseph , Bradford and one nephew Curcio, also of this city. The funeral announcement will be made later.
Funeral services for the late Antonio Petillo were held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Bernard's church. Rev. David F. Hickey, LLD officiating.
Members of LaStella lodge of which Mr. Petillo was a charter member attended the services in a body. The Junior choir of the church assisted by a Surra had charge of the music. The body was laid to rest in St. Bernard's cemetery.

"Paternal Great Grandmother"
Mrs. Lydia Petillo , wife of Anthony Petillo , died at 7:30 yesterday morning at the family home, No. 23 Davis Street, following a protracted illness. Deceased had been a resident of Bradford for the past twenty-three years and had won the esteem and respect of all who knew her, by her display of many admirable qualities. Mrs. Petillo was a devout member of St. Bernard's church. In addition to her husband , she is survived by one son, Joseph Petillo: 2 sisters , Mrs. Mary Tammaro and Mrs. Katherine Onofrio and one brother, Peter Allegretti, all of Bradford. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning in St. Bernard's church. Interment in St. Bernard's cemetery.

"Paternal Grandfather"
Joseph Patrick Petillo Sr.., 72 of 32 Cottage Row , died at Bradford Hospital , Dec. 18 , 1968 He was born in Bradford and attended local schools. He studied music under the late Prof. Renaldi. He was a tailor for over 50 years. He was an accomplished musician on the trumpet and was well known for his musical ability. He was director of the Bradford Citizens Band for a number of years and was associated with several area orchestras. For the past 15 years , he was with the Dipson Theater chain in Bradford. He was a member of the local American Federation of Musicians ., the Knights of Columbus , Men of St. Bernard's , Elks and Moose Lodges. He is survived by his wife , Helen Gocella Petillo, one daughter , Mrs. Burt Calhoun of New Smyrna Beach , FL., four sons , Joseph and Edward , both of Bradford , Donald & Rocco.

"Father"
Edward M."Eddie" Petillo ,74, of 3 Brennan St. died Tuesday, April 18, 2000 in Bradford Regional Medical Center. Born September 12, 1925 in Emporium, Cameron Co.,PA, he was a son of Joseph P. and Helen Gocella Petillo. On August 18, 1956, in Bradford, he married Josephine Bizzaro who survives. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS LST 750 and the USS Midway. A resident of Bradford most of his life, he was employed as a security guard for Pinkerton Security at Dresser Industries, Inc. He also worked at Spears, W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. and Bradford Area High School. Mr. Petillo was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Maceratese Club. He was a member of St. Bernard Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Debra A. Whitney of New Port Richey,FL (now of Bradford) and Mary Koscelnik of Burton,OH, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one sister, Lydia Calhoun of New Smyrna Beach,Fl, 2 brothers, Rocco Petillo of Ormand Beach,FL and Dominic Petillo of Honolulu,Hawaii, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents , he was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Raymond Petillo, July 10, 1969 and 2 brothers, Joseph P. Petillo Jr.,1988 and Anthony, 1935. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hollenbeck Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St. where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Leo Gallina, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cememtery. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

E. M. PETILLO., W. T. 3rd Class After a terrible experience in which his ship was torpedoed and sunk, Edward M. Petillo, W. T. 3/c., U. S. Navy, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Petillo of 63 Cottage Row. Petillo is a survivor of the LST 750, which was torpedoed and sunk, Dec. 28, 1944, in the Sulu Sea on the trip to Jap-held Mindoro. His ship suffered under a 36-hour attack by Jap planes. The LST 750 was bought by war bonds purchased in Pittsburgh and will be replaced in the near future. Petillo has seen 18 months duty overseas. Placing the casket pall were Lucille Nuzzo, Mary Ann Nuzzo and Louis Nuzzo (nieces and nephew) The lector was William Gocella ( cousin ). Offertory gifts were presented by Debra Whitney and Josephine Nuzzo (daughter and niece ). Pall Bearers were; Scott Whitney , Matthew Koscelnik and Tim Koscelnik all grandsons; Pat Bizzaro, Louis Nuzzo and Mark Anderson all nephews.

HELEN LOUISE McCLELLAN HAYES
New York Native

"Mother"
Helen Louise McClellan Hayes, 62, died, February 18, 1993, at her residence. A native of New York, she was born August 27, 1930 and had been a Reno resident for the past nine months, coming from California. Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband Robert, and daughters, Debbie Whitney and Mary Koscelnik. No funeral is scheduled. Cremation will be at Mountain View Crematory under the direction of O'Brien - Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, Reno.


 


"Brother"
Frederick R. Petillo 20 , of 63 Cottage Row, died at approximately 12:15 a. m. Thursday in Bradford Hospital following injuries he received in a one-car accident near Derrick City. Coroner Gale F. Hollenbeck who issued a certificate of accidental death , said the youth suffered a skull fracture in the county's 11th traffic death of the year. He was informed that the car went out of control on a curve and plunged into a creek, tossing the driver from the machine. Mr. Petillo was born January 27th, 1949, attended local schools and on March 1, 1967, was married to the former Nancy Bradford. Surviving in addition to his wife are, a daughter, Brenda Lee, at home; two sisters, Debra Arlene Petillo and Mary Kathleen Petillo, both of Cleveland, OH; his father, Edward M. Petillo of Bradford, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Joseph Petillo of New Smyrna Beach FL., and his paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Theresa Gocella. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the Galati Funeral Home, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Martin A. Grady, pastor of St. Bernard Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

"Maternal Great Great Grandfather"
George Welker, formerly a prominent citizen of Kane, died Saturday afternoon at the home of his daughter , Mrs. W. B. Smith at Narbeth near Philadelphia., where he had made his residence for a several years. Deceased was 79 years old and was a pioneer hotel man of Kane, later entering the hardware business in company with his son-in-law under the firm name of the Smith-Welker company. Mr. Welker was a charter member of the Smethport Mason lodge, of the Odd Fellows lodge at Williamsport and of the Kane lodge of Elks. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alf Evans, in Kane, and burial was made in Forest Lawn cemetery in that borough.

A. G. Hatch, of 114 Fulton Street died in the home of his mother, in Cambridge Springs, where he was visiting. The body will be brought here tonight on Erie train 8. Mr. Hatch is survived by his wife; three daughters, Marion, Helen and Geraldine, his mother, and one brother E. A. Hatch of Altoona, PA. He was a member of the Moose, Palestine Court, Tribe of Ben Hur and the Odd Fellows.

The body of A. G. Hatch. who died of influenza in Cambridge Springs, was brought to this city last night and taken to his home 114 Coleman Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from street. The funeral will be held at house. Rev. G. R. Williamson officiating. Burial will be made in the Protestant cemetery. Allegany.

"Maternal Great Grandmother"
Mrs. Roxie Mary Rixford, 86, of 19 Miller St., died Tuesday in Bradford Hospital. Born Dec. 28, 1892, in Kane, she was the daughter of George and Mary Sullivan Welker. In 1907 she married Alex Hatch, who died in 1918. In 1924 she married Fred R. Rixford who died in 1956. She attended Kane schools, was a member of St. Bernard Church, the Rosary Altar Society, the Frances Sherman Auxiliary and World War One Widows. Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Helen Pascale , and Mrs. Geraldine Maney of Bradford ; a sister Mrs. Christine Arnold of Seneca, MO; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and seven great great great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call after 7 pm at Galati Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 am Saturday with the Reverend Martin A. Grady, pastor of St. Bernard's Church, officiating. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY - because of Easter, a funeral mass will be held at a later date.

F. R. Rixford, 60, Native of Rixford, Succumbs in Texas
Frederick Raymond Rixford, 60, of Pampa, Texas, a former local oil field contractor, died at his home on Sunday. He resided in Bradford for 23 years before moving to Texas two years ago. A native of Rixford, Mr. Rixford was an independent drilling contractor in the local fields for many years. In Texas, was employed by the Orica Drilling Co. Mr. Rixford was a member of the Holy Soul Catholic Church of Pampa, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Olean Aerie of the Eagles. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Rixford saw action with the American Expeditionary Forces in France. Surviving are his wife, Roxie; three stepdaughters, Mrs. William A. McClellan, Mrs. Paschal Pascale, and Mrs. Paul Maney, all of Bradford; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Firkle, Rixford, Mrs. Sylvia Clark, Duke Center, and Mrs. Charles Manning, Portville, N.Y., one brother, Ward of Rixford; and several nieces and nephews, including Rev. Thomas Parrott, C.P., now at St. Louis, Mo. A funeral service was held yesterday morning at St. Bernard's Church in Bradford. Interment was in St. Bonaventure's Cemetery at Allegany, N.Y.

Mrs. Mary Welker, a well-known resident of Bradford for the past 15 years, died at 9:25 o'clock last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Rixford, 134 Summer Street, after a week's illness. Death was ascribed to complications. A native of Dublin, Ireland, Mrs. Welker came to Bradford 15 years ago from Kane where she had lived for more than 50 years. She was the wife of the late George Welker, prominent hotel proprietor in that community for a number of years. Mr. Welker died about 30 years ago. Mrs. Welker was well-known in Bradford and had many friends, both here and in Kane. She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic church and of the Rosary Confraternity of St. Bonaventure's church, Allegany, N.Y. Surviving her are four daughters, Mrs. T. J. O'Rourke of Pampa, Tex., Mrs. P. C. Arnold of Centralia, Ill., Mrs. Fred Rixford and Mrs. Elmer Ottoson, both of Bradford; a sister, Mrs. Edward Snyder of Kane; six grandchildren and 10 great granchildren. The body was removed to Still's Funeral home and will be taken to the Rixford home on Summer Street this afternoon. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later.

Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure cemetery in Allegany, N.Y.

Lydia H. Calhoun ,68 ,of New Smyrna Beach ,FL, died Wednesday (May,31,2000) at her daughter's home in Deltona. Lydia was born in 1932 in Bradford ,Pa. to Joseph P. and Helen L. Petillo Sr. She attended St. Bernard's Schools and lived in Bradford for many years. She lived in New Smyrna for 45 years. Mrs. Calhoun was a retired central supply technician. She belonged to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was the past president of the American Business Women's Association. She is survived by a son, Michael Calhoun of New Smyrna Beach; a daughter Lisa Valentine, of Deltona; two brothers, Rocco (Rocky) Petillo of Ormand Beach,FL. and Dominick Petillo of Honolulu, Hawaii; one Aunt,Carina (Carrie )MacCargar, two grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Burt Calhoun , her parents Joseph Sr. and Helen L. Petillo and three brothers, Anthony , Joseph Jr. and Edward M. Petillo

"Paternal Great Aunt"

Martha L. Pessia , 85, a 48 year resident of El Segundo, California, passed away June 19th, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. Martha was born December 10, 1924 to Domenic and Theresa Gocella of Bradford, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and eight sisters. She is survived by Benny Pessia, her loving husband of sixty years, three children, Ronald Pessia, Nancy English, and Perry Pessia, and two grandchildren, Sean and Andrea English. Martha served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II, and more recently participated in the R.S.V.P. Program (Senior Volunteers) at the El Segundo Police Department. In addition, she was retired from Continental Airlines after 13 years of service. At home, Martha's kitchen was her palace where she enjoyed cooking for family and sharing her favorite recipes with friends. She is remembered lovingly by family and many dear friends for her kindness, generosity and good nature. Martha will be in our hearts forever and will be greatly missed. Services were private.
