Descendants of Barnabas Horton
1. Barnabas Horton, b. 1600 in Mousely, Leicestershire,
England (headstone). He married (1) Anne
Smith.
He married (2) Mary Langton, (daughter of _____ Langton and Mary _____). Barnabas died aft 10/MAY/1680.
Per Hortons in America,
1875: "His tombstone is of English blue marble, five feet long and about
three feet wide. It is placed horizontally over the grave. The stone was
re-lettered about fifty or sixty years ago by Jonathan G. Horton. It is
elevated about eighteen inches from the ground, on a good stone base. The
original base was of brick, but it had all crumbled down many years ago. The
present base was put under the stone at the time it was re-lettered by John G.
Horton. The inscription surrounds the border of the stone, and reads as
follows:
"Here lieth buried
the body of MR. BARNABAS HORTON, who was born at Mousely, Leicestershire. Old
England, and died at Southold, on the 13th day of July, 1680, aged 80
years."
In the centre of the stone we find the Epitaph, as follows:
"Here lies my body tombed in dust
'Till Christ shall come to raise it with the just;
My soul ascended to the throne of God,
Where with sweet Jesus now I make abode:
Then hasten after me, my dearest wife,
To be partaker of this blessed life;
And you, dear children, all follow the Lord,
Hear and obey His public sacred word;
And in your houses call upon His name,
For oft I have advised you to the same:
Then God will bless you with your children all,
And to this blessed place He will you call."
Heb. xi:4.--"He being dead, yet speaketh."
It is said that this
epitaph was written by himself, and that it, together with the inscription,
date of his death excepted, was all put upon the stone before he died. He was
the only one of the original thirteen who brought his tombstone with him, and
this fact seems to indicate a commendable desire to see that his name and
memory should not perish from the earth."

Taken from the Third
Publication of the Hildreth Family Association, "James Hildreth was living
in 1677. His descendants are resident mainly in Binghamton, Long Island, New
York. He was a carpenter, dwelling in Mecox prior to 1677. In 1697, with Henry
Pierson and Theophilus Howell, he obtained a grant of Sagg Stream for a grist
mill. Later the Hildreth's owned a windmill in Sagaponack, where James built a
house. This substantial dwelling was standing until recent years, and is
illustrated in Adam's History of Southampton. Besides this property and that at
Mecox, he owned a house and land at Noyac. In 1720, James Hildreth, carpenter,
being sick, made his will. Hi died in 1720 or 1722. Family records say 1720. In

Hi Deby,
Here is some new info
on Elijah GARRETSON...
Leslie Karpolorich
found a 1942 letter at the Cumberland Co NJ Historical
Soc. It was from Emma Aldrich of Demount
(Cumberland Co NJ) to Norman
Vanaman of Ocean View
(Cape May Co NJ). Norman Vanaman was a
southern NJ
genealogist.
Emma Aldrich was Emma
ELDREDGE b c1845 (age about 97 in 1942) m 13 Feb 1866
Cape May Co NJ to Levi
ALDRICH. Emma was the daughter of
William ELDREDGE b
18 Sep 1820 m 3 Jan
1843 Cape May Co NJ to Elizabeth Springer GANDY. William
was the son of
Nathaniel ELDREDGE b 7 Nov 1786 m 20 May 1805 Cape May Co NJ
to Rachel GARRETSON b
18 Mar 1780 Upper Twp Cape May Co NJ d 23 Jan 1855
Middle Twp Cape May Co
NJ. Rachel was the daughter of Elijah
&
Tobitha/Tabitha
(GODFREY) GARRETSON.
Elijah GARRETSON died
intestate ca Jan 1824 Upper Twp Cape May Co NJ.
Nathaniel ELDREDGE must
of had something to do with his father-in-law's
estate. At least, he
purchased Elijah GARRETSON's plantation and other
members of the family
had to sign off on this. The papers
involved were
passed down to
Nathaniel ELDREDGE's son William, and William's daughter,
Emma, who apparently
lived to be very old, wrote about them in 1942 to the
genealogist Norman
Vanaman. Among these papers was a letter from Enos &
Mary, of Wayne Co IN
(1821), and also Benjamin & Mary (sic) PARSON (sic)
(1824), which should
say Benjamin & Martha PARSONS. Emma
listed the names
of the children and who
they married.

Nathaniel ELDREDGE must
of had something to do with his father-in-law's
estate. At least, he
purchased Elijah GARRETSON's plantation and other
members of the family
had to sign off on this. The papers
involved were
passed down to
Nathaniel ELDREDGE's son William, and William's daughter,
Emma, who apparently
lived to be very old, wrote about them in 1942 to the
genealogist Norman
Vanaman. Among these papers was a letter from Enos &
Mary, of Wayne Co IN
(1821), and also Benjamin & Mary (sic) PARSON (sic)
(1824), which should
say Benjamin & Martha PARSONS. Emma
listed the names
