From Europe to America—Darrell E. Larocque

My Incredible Ancestry

The Filles de Roi in Quebec

Many years ago, I got involved with my family genealogy after there was a possibility that one of my ancestors was Native American. Up until that time, I knew very little about my family history– there were so many different aunts, uncles, and cousins all across the U.S.A., and so many names.

I started off by going through LDS records (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, aka the Mormons), and I really was having a difficult time, even though I knew my great grandparents. I got a few Larocque names here and there, but nothing concrete. It was the revolution of the Internet that really got it started for me! Now I was able to gain access to so many different records– Quebec church records, New England publications, Norwegian archives– and boy did my list of names grow! It is hard to believe that I have gathered over 5,000 names and am STILL looking for unknown ancestors as late as 1830! Genealogy is not easy, but boy it sure is a vast amount of puzzles waiting to be solved!

My last message is this– if my site can help you in any way get closer to figuring out your ancestry, then great!

These pages are dedicated to my father, Darrell R. Larocque, who taught me much about life and how to live it. If you knew him then you could never forget him. The zest for life will never die– I love you always, Dad.
