DELOREY FAMILY REUNION,
AUGUST 13th-15th, 2004

A group of Delorey researchers have joined together to organize a family reunion at Tracadie, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, to be held during the Congrès mondial acadien 2004 (World Acadian Congress), which will take place in Nova Scotia, July 31st-August 15th (Visit http://www.cma2004.com/ for more information).

The Delorey family originated with the sons of Thomas Jacquet dit DesLauriers and Marguerite Sigouin, who settled at Tracadie around 1787. The name gradually changed to Delorey, and the many descendants of their five sons spread out to neighboring Guysborough, Pictou and Richmond Counties, and by the late 1800's to New England, and beyond.

One of the main reasons for holding the reunion is to give our Delorey cousins a chance to meet one another (many for the first time) and to return to the beautiful homeland of our ancestors. Another reason is to provide an opportunity to share genealogy research with others working on the same branch of the Delorey family. And last but not least, have fun!

Why should you pre-register?

-- To help us create a mailing list, for when the time comes to start registering for the actual event.

-- To help us get an idea of how many cousins might attend. It will help the planning committee come up with a budget and set a reasonable registration fee, if we know how many folks might show up. At this point, we don't know if 50 or 500 people would be interested in attending.

Who should pre-register?

-- Anyone with a connection to the Delorey, (Delory, DeLorey, et al.) family, from those who are just thinking about it, to those who wouldn't miss it for the world.

How much does it cost?

-- Nothing! This is absolutely free! We will ask for a registration fee (amount to be determined) later, when we have a formal registration.

If I pre-register, am I committed to attending?

-- Not at all. We realize that this event won't be taking place for almost 2 years, and a lot can happen between now and then. Right now our main goal is to get a rough head count and develop a mailing list.

How do you pre-register?

-- Simply e-mail Mary Ferguson [email protected], with the subject line "Pre-registration." Or send by regular mail to Mary at: 1131 Mixtwood St., Ann Arbor, MI 48103-3034. Please include the following information:

1) Your name

2) How many might be attending in your party

3) Your e-mail (if applicable) and postal addresses (For privacy reasons, these will not be posted in the list below. Only the city you're from.)

4) If you have any suggestions for ideas that would help to make this a memorable event, please include them also.

5) I'm putting together a genealogy database to display how the attendees are related. If you'd like to be included, please send your parents' and Delorey grandparents' names with your registration. There's a good chance I already have them, or can connect them to the original Delorey family.

What can you do to help?

-- Just get the word out to as many of your Delorey relatives and acquaintances as you can about the reunion, and encourage them to pre-register too.
