General Notes:OBITUARY:
[Brookings (S.D.) County Press, April 1922]
Mrs. David Selix
Mrs. David F. Selix died April 10th, 1922, at the home of her son Thad A. Selix, at Brookings, South Dakota. May Hanna was born March 16th 1856 at Madison, Wis., and lived there until seven years of age, when she moved with her parents, Robert and Clarisa Hanna, to Clarksville, Ia., where she grew to womanhood. On March 15th, 1891, she was married to David F. Selix of Dumont, Iowa, where they established their home on his farm until 1902, when they moved to Minnesota on a farm near Austin. It was here Mr. Selix died in July 1904, leaving her the widowed mother of eleven children. Here also the eldest daughter, Winifred died, six months later. The other ten, six sons and four daughters, still live to cherish her memory. Since the death of her husband she has been an invalid, caused by a weakness of the heart resultant in the stiffening of the joints making her almost helpless for several years. However, with the help of her eldest children, she continued to operate the farm or maintain a home in Austin, Mn., until 1913. Since that time she has lived with one or another of her children. It was only during the last month that she became reconciled to her condition, and she was confined to her bed but a few days before she passed away. She did not claim affiliation with any church organization, tho in her youth she was a member of the Baptist church. She had a great love for reading the scriptures and other religious publication, and seemed to adhere to the simple belief that mortality is the result of disobedience and that death would end all suffering and all punishment, while immortality she considered as the gift of God's mercy, granted through resurrection in Jesus Christ to those who chose to avail themselves of its beneficence by seeking after glory, honor and immortality. A short service was held at Brookings, South Dakota, April 12th, which as attended by the families of Sheridan and T. A. Selix of Brookings, Louie Selix and wife of Bruce, S.D. and Roy Selix of Austin, Minn. The remains were taken to Dumont, Iowa for burial where the rest of the children, O.B. Selix of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. J. W. Zimmerman of Beloit, Wis., Mrs. Oren Blabaum, Mrs. Leo Regner, Rose, Dewey and Roy Selix of Austin, Minn., and one brother, Wm. Hanna of Hansel, Iowa, met together with old friends and neighbors at a service held in the Methodist church after which she was laid to rest beside her husband.
May married David Franklin Selix, son of Simon Selix and Diantha L. Hall, in Mar 1881 in Franklin Co., Iowa. (David Franklin Selix was born on 16 Jan 1847 in Whiteside Co., Illinois 3, died on 25 Jul 1904 in Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota 3 and was buried in Hampton, Franklin, Iowa.)
Noted events in his life were:

1. Residence; census 1880; Ingham Twp, Franklin, Iowa. Living with Henry & Mary Funnell.
