Haplogroups in the YSTR Database
The YSTR.org database of European Y chromosome haplotypes
includes a list of the 30 most common
minimal haplotypes. These 30 haplotypes are listed below grouped together according to my best
guess as to their YCC haplogroup classification. The haplotypes in each group have their
marker alleles
shown in red where they differ from those of the most common haplotype in that group.
The "Top 30" ranking and population for each haplotype were those found
when the database contained 12387 samples. These 30 haplotypes account for about 20% of the
samples in the database.

YCC Haplogroup E3b1 (alpha cluster)
Haplotype #15 is the most common E3b haplotype seen in Europe. This seems to be the
modal haplotype for
the E-M78-alpha cluster referred to by
Cruciani et al.

YCC Haplogroup E3b2
Haplotype #23 is seen mostly in Spain. This seems to be the modal haplotype for E-M81
that
Cruciani et al saw centered in northwest Africa (with some
spreading up into Spain).

A map of the distribution of haplogroups in Europe is given on the second page of Semino's 2000 paper
"A
Genetic Legacy of Homo Sapiens Sapiens in Extant Europeans: a Y Chromosome Perspective". Haplogroup R1b
(HG1) is shown in green, R1a (HG3) is shown in purple, I is shown in blue, F,G, and J are shown in
red, E3b (HG21) is shown in yellow, and haplogroup N3 (HG16) is shown in pink.
