Hershey - Hersea
Very little information about the origins of this branch has been located. The name was spelled 'Hersea" on a marriage registration, but 'Hershey' on the other documents that I have obtained. The family appears to have moved about a great deal as their children were born in a variety of locations. My grandmother once mentioned that her grandfather (Isaac) had been a 'horse-trader back east'. I have no idea whether or not that information was accurate.
Isaac HERSHEY was born 9 September 1862. His wife was Maggie DILL (born 25 March 1864 in Chatham, Ontario). They were married 21 March 1883 in the Presbyterian Manse at Rodney, Aldborough Twp., Elgin Co., Ontario by David Meane, minister, with Helen and Jessie Meane as witnesses.
Apparently Isaac was searching for land in Western Canada in the late 1890s. The family left Ontario (Niagara Falls - Navy Island) and homesteaded in the area of Irma - Wainwright, Alberta in the early 1900s. Isaac apparently died in 1930, and was buried in Niagara Falls, although the exact location is unknown. His parents parents were David Hershey and Elizabeth Sayler (or Saylor), information about them is lacking.
Isaac's wife, Maggie, died 17 March 1943 in Little Fort, BC. Her death registration states that she lived in British Columbia for eleven years. She moved west after she was widowed to be near three of her children that had settled at Little Fort, BC.
