Mother of Jane Paterson Barrett, grandmother of Lily Rosabel Bowden-Ball, ROSABELLA was born on December 6, 1831 in London, England, and christened on March 18, 1832 at St. Anne's Church, Westminster, Soho, London, England. To see Rosabella's Birth Record CLICK HERE. Her parents were JACOB CLEAL (a green grocer) and Mary Ann Young (a relative of the Mormon Church leader, Brigham Young). Rosabella was the second of three children. Her mother Mary Ann died when these children were reasonably young. Jacob went on to marry twice more and had a further eleven children. Rosabella spent a short time in England, after which she moved to Ontario, Canada with her father Jacob Cleal and her uncle Daniel Cleal. |
William Barrett (1822-1908) All we know about WILLIAM is that he was born around 1822, in London, England, to unknown parents. We are currently searching for information about his family, birthplace and his childhood. He or his family moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Whilst there he worked as a baker, a profession he persued all his life. We have discovered an advertisement in the Toronto Directories which indicate that the Cleal's owned a biscuit company in Canada. This could be where William was working when he met Rosabella. |
The clergyman who officiated was J Gamble Geddes. Rosabella was only 16years 6mths when she married (possibly without her father's permission to marry). Rosabella listed herself as "formerly of England, presently residing in 'Grand River'. This is a tract of land a little way from Hamilton comprising of all the land between Dunneville, Brantford and Paris (Canada). |
