BETTY CLEAL'S story began in England.
The earliest we know of the CLEAL family is that
James CLEAL married Jane ?? sometime before 1755.
He died in 1787 in Somerset, England. She died in 1814 at Horton, Ilminster, Somerset
They had James, Jane (c.1755), Joseph (c.1757), Benjamin (1761)
and possibly Betty (Bettey)

Betty Cleal was possibly the youngest sister of James Cleal who married Sarah Gawler.
married on 3 Jan 1787, Broadway, Somerset, England to John MATTHEWS at Ilminster, Somerset, England
Their children were all baptised at The Old Meeting House, Ilminster, Somerset:
John (1790), Thomas (1792), Elizabeth (1794), Jane (c.1796), James (c.1796), Ann (c.1796),

John was born abt 1790, Thomas was born abt. 1792 and baptised on 1 Jan 1796
Elizabeth was born abt. 1794 and baptised 1 Jan 1796, Jane was baptised 1 Jan 1796
and James was baptised 1 Jan 1796
Ann was baptised on 1 Jan 1796 and married on 6 May 1813 at Ilminster Somerset
to Sam LOCK (d.1864). Their children were all baptised in Broadway, Somerset:
Jane was baptised 5 Sep. 1819, Joseph was baptised 6 Aug. 1821
Eliza was baptised 16 Jan 1825, Samuel was baptised 18 Sep. 1825
Mary Ann was baptised 25 Dec. 1827, Jesse was baptised 29 Aug. 1830
and Charlotte was baptised 18 Nov. 1832

Betty surely fits in our 'family puzzle', as our James and his wife Jane both died in Ilminster, Somerset - but how/where does she fit ??
