Our CLEAL Ancestors
came from
Somerset, England
and now call
AUSTRALIA home.

Their story began in England.

The earliest we know of 'our' CLEAL family is that
JAMES CLEAL married Jane ?? sometime before 1755.
He died in 1787 in Somerset, England. She died in 1814 at Horton, Ilminster, Somerset
Their children: James (c.1750s), Jane (c.1755), Joseph (1757), Benjamin (1761) and possibly Betty (Bettey)
JAMES CLEAL(c.1750s)
He married Sarah Gawler and had ten children:
Sophia (c.1792), Phoebe (c.1794), Arabella (c.1796),
James CLEAL (b.1799), Hannah (b.1802), Thomas (b.1804),James (1807)
DANIEL (1806-1882), JACOB (1809-1898), Jane (b.1811) and
Sarah (b.1814 was living at Donyatt, Somerset when christened at 1830)
Their children: James (c.1750s), Jane (c.1755), Joseph (1757), Benjamin (1761) and Betty (Bettey) Their eldest son James CLEAL (sometimes referred to as Jacob) was a Clothier
This James is probably the son of Jacob and Jane, as a property named SAVAGES was acquired in 1791 by Jane Cleal.
She also owned properties called GODDENS AND MATTHEWS.
We understand the eldest son JAMES CLEALE married ELIZABETH SAVIDGE on January 30, 1781 Stocklinch Attersay, Somerset M150881 (she possibly died late 1780s)
