The earliest we know of 'our' CLEAL family is that JAMES CLEAL married Jane ?? sometime before 1755. He died in 1787 in Somerset, England. She died in 1814 at Horton, Ilminster, Somerset Their children: James (c.1750s), Jane (c.1755), Joseph (1757), Benjamin (1761) and possibly Betty (Bettey) |

Their eldest son James CLEAL (sometimes referred to as Jacob) was a Clothier This James is probably the son of Jacob and Jane, as a property named SAVAGES was acquired in 1791 by Jane Cleal. She also owned properties called GODDENS AND MATTHEWS. We understand the eldest son JAMES CLEALE married ELIZABETH SAVIDGE on January 30, 1781 Stocklinch Attersay, Somerset M150881 (she possibly died late 1780s) |
