"Dillows in Blue"

The following Dillows served on the Union side during the Civil War:


Thomas J. Dillow (son of Robert, grandson of Abram), served in the Union Army's Company A, 5th West Virginia Infantry. He enlisted on July 21, 1863 in Lawrence County, OH. He (along with the rest of the unit) was transfered to Company A, 1st West Virginia Volunteer Infantry on November 9, 1864. Thomas was honorably discharged on July 21, 1865 at Cumberland, MD. He received a military pension from 1889 until his death in 1925.


Abraham Dillow (son of Robert, grandson of Abram), served in the Union Army's Company A, 5th West Virginia Infantry. He enlisted on September 2, 1861 at Ceredo, VA (later West Virginia). He drove an ammuntion wagon as part of his duties. Abraham was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal on October 8, 1864 at Wheeling, WVa. He received a military pension from 1888 until his death in 1910.


George W. Dillow (son of Robert, grandson of Abram), served in the Union Army's 5th Company A, West Virginia Infantry. He enlisted on August 10, 1861 at Ceredo, VA. George was mustered into service on September 2, 1861 at Camp Pierpoint, WVa. He served in the same unit as older brothers Thomas and Abraham until his health prevented in November 1863. George was officially discharged on October 3, 1864.


John C. Dillow (son of Robert, grandson of Abram), served in the Union Army's Company A, 14th Kentucky Infantry. He enlisted on October 1, 1861 at Louisa, Lawrence County, KY. He was mustered into service on December 10, 1861 at Camp Wallace, Lawrence County, KY. John was promoted to the rank of sergeant in August of 1863. He went to the hospital sometime in early 1865 at Ashland, Boyd County, KY where he remained until his honorable discharge on July 10, 1865.
