He was born one spring in old Rock Bay. Within a few square miles he would always stay.
Living on a floathouse in the river slough, Norm and his brother found plenty to do.
As a boy, he tried to walk on water, but soon found out he was no otter!
Learned to hunt and fish and read the tide. Now all he needed was to find a bride.
Met Thelma McLeod, they started romancin'. In 1952, she was Thelma Hansen.
Didn't take long for them to have a kid. Seems he was handy with more than a fid!
Two more children before they were done, then a bunch of grandkids to add to the fun.
One of his passions was to hunt for deer, spendin' time with friends, enjoying a beer.
He loved to fish, was good at the game. Salmon would shiver when they heard his name.
With all that he had, there was only one wish... All Norm wanted was a fifty-pound fish.
Always sayin' something to make you laugh, as good with a joke as he was with a gaff.
His sense of humour was known by many. Those not burnt by "the spoon", there were hardly any.
Many long years spent sitting on a yarder. The men on his "side" said there weren't any smarter.
He taught them well, logging tricks that he knew, and was much admired by all of the crew.
The boys all knew if he turned his hat, stay out of his "vay" and "dat vos dat".
On the day that we gathered to say goodbye, many would speak of "vun helluva guy".
