McLean Writing & reSearch Genealogy

INTRODUCTION

Like everything, this site is a work in progress. It features a very small set of interlinked biographical summaries of three early McLeans in America: Fergus McLean, a patriot farmer in the revolutionary War of Independence, his son John, who rose to the Supreme Court, and his son Nathaniel Collins, who found himself amidst near unbelievable drama and horror as a Brigadier General in the Civil War.  Extracts of connecting early Blackfords, Burnets and Taylors are also touched on. It is hoped that over time more linked biographies will be added. They will also become linked to and from broader and genealogical data. Meanwhile I apologize for all the "not found" pages and broken links.

A life lived centuries ago may seem remote and irrelevant to present day life. Yet if any of our ancestors fates, no matter HOW far back, had unfolded even the slightest bit differently, this little site would not exist. Nor the world as we know it. Nor the vast majority of you. This simple truth is known as the "Butterfly Effect" in the emerging Science of Complexity. Remember, each of our actions effect the future likewise. Close or "far", the true stories featured in these pages, like every story from all corners of the globe, contribute strands in the weave of history that leads to our own unique, yet utterly INTER-DEPENDENT stories. The purpose of the site is to share and make NEW connections.
