Farmall Tractors

[Farmall Regular]

My grandfather, French Morgan, owned a Farmall Regular, that he probably traded some mules for. It probably looked something like this. (No, that is not a pic of my grandfather) He couldn't get rubber tires for it until sometime after World War Two.

He also had an F-20. The picture below is of an F-20, but not the one my grandfather owned.

Here is a letter I got from my uncle Earl

"Mon, 15 Dec 1997 10:40:02 -0800

"The first tractor Daddy French bought (or traded mules for) was a FARMALL, and it was already several years old when he brought it home. It was on steel wheels instead of rubber. Because of tire rationing during WWII he had to wait until after the war to convert it over to rubber. There was such a demand for these conversions that he had to wait until his number came up, then take the wheels to Sayre for the conversion.

[F-20] You are right about the F 20 but it was several years later before he got this one. Both tractors look pretty much the same but to him there was a vast difference in the performance of the F-20. He road (traveled) that tractor many, many times to and from the farm they had east of Sweetwater.

"His next two tractores were: 8N FORD and TO-30 FERGUSON.

"Nobody keep their tractors in as good a condition as he did; they were his livelihood, even up to the day he died. He had plowed 4 garden patches the day before. Sometimes he would change implements two or three times on one patch in order to clean out the corners and fence lines, smooth out freshly plowed soil, etc.

"This type chit-chat could go on and on; for example, I wrote a story about his activities the day before his death. Mama Mae read it over, made a few changes, and I don't think I ever gave anyone a copy of it.

"Thanks David . . . I love the pictures of tractors. I still have the old REGULAR and F-20 tractors at Erick."

[French Morgan] THIS is a picture of my grandfather. Cute, isn't he. The picture must have been taken about the time Oklahoma became a state in 1907. Go through the picture for more pics.

A family that I know a little bit about moved from Holland, Texas in 1917-1918 to the Happy-Canyon, Texas area, invested in some Rumley tractors, with iron wheels, no less. They had a bad crop, and it took many years to get those tractors paid off.
