This website is a compilation of 18th, 19th & early 20th century resources, provided to assist amateur genealogists with their family history research in Donegal. It is the work of myself and other researchers. There are now 1,428 pages of transcriptions and there's still a lot more to come!
You will find special projects, where a large collection of records have been compiled on a subject/event or parish, and general indexes to BDM, census or land records, where full or partial transcriptions have been compiled. There are also maps, photographs and indexes to all available records and published works.
I have been researching my Donegal ancestors for many years - the research is difficult and alot of the records hard to navigate, but once you understand these available records, you can put together a good family history. You just have to bear in mind that the records are limited - civil registration didn't start until 1864 for the general population, church registers around the same time, though a lucky few start earlier - very, very few 19th century census exist, so the earliest universally available is 1901.
ALL records on this website are in the public domain and should all be free of copyright. If there are any records which you believe are under copyright, or have been reproduced here without permissions/the correct acknowledgements, please contact me with the details of the file.
This website is totally FREE to access and is intended to be used by amateur genealogists researching their Donegal roots. If you would like to copy sections of any records for your family history, please advise the submitter of the record/s and request permission to do so. The name of the submitter should be located at the top of each page however, if there is not a name, then it was my transcription. Copying of anything contained within this website for commercial purposes is not permitted. If you want to link to any of the pages, please let me know, so we can exchange links. Using a large number of links or building a website around links to my website is not acceptable.
