A woman named Martha unk, b 1808, married a man named unk Stewart about 1820, had a daughter Margaret Jane b Nov 1830, supposedly in Letterkenny, a son William in Jul 1832, a daughter Catherine A in 1838, and another son David M in 1841. Then the husband, unk Stewart dies and she marries an unk Armstrong. She has a daughter Mary E in 1845 and another son, James T in 1847. Then husband #2 dies. The next dated event is her immigration, with these five children, in 1857. It’s possible that twice-widowed Martha unk will turn out to be a Patton from the Ramelton area, but I have no real clue to her identity. The various online references for Letterkenny have some plausible candidates for her husbands. Based on her children’s names, I’d like to see a William or David Stewart and Pigot’s has a William Stewart, grocer. The 1834 tithe has a Daniel, Robert, Samuel, and William. He died between 1841 and 1845, and the 1857 Griffiths has no Stewart listed, so that kind of checks out. For her second husband, I’d look for another merchant type with first names of James or Thomas, based on their sons’ names. The 1834 tithe has an Anthony. The 1846, the correct time, has a Thomas, spirit dealer. So that kind of fits too. Sigh! So close and yet so far! The Floyd and Stewart lines join up in Pittsburgh PA in 1858 when Samuel Bruce “SB” Floyd married Margaret Jane Stewart. “SB” was one of a number of Floyd men – brothers and cousins- who immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1831 – 1853. I should say that these families were probably all Presbyterians. Lynn Wendell lnwende@pacbell.net
