Christine (Durham) Beiderwell has sent me more genealogical information
on our McNulty ancestors from Georgetown, S.C. The new names added
to the database are McNulty, Cuttino, Marion, and Guillard families from
Georgetown. From the historical data I've gathered so far it appears that these
families migrated from La Rochelle, Charente-Maritim, France during the late
1600's. These families were French Huguenots who were being persecuted and
were forced to flee France during this time period. Another point of interest in this
latest update is the addition of Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox) to our family tree.
Francis Marion's ancestors were French Huguenots as well and settled in the same
Georgetown, S.C. area. Francis Marion's brother, Job Marion, married Elizabeth
Guillard (2nd wife) on December 14th, 1762.

Its been a while since my last update. I came across the original pension statement
taken from Captain Charnel Durham at age 79 after the Revolutionary War. This
statement seems to coincide with stories contained within the family memoir.
The person who recorded the document states that at this time Capt. Durham was
apparently in ill health or suffering from some unknown age related disease. I have posted
the full article on the Captain Charnel Durham history page.  Also
Richard Durham has emailed me and told me that his daughter Sarah has safely
returned from Baghdad, Iraq.

Ann Hill, who is a Durham relative from the Chester, S.C. line has sent
me an email with some update information related to some family members
in my database that may be in error. I plan to update the database soon
once I have completed some changes and Ann has finished her research.

Kathryn (Durham) McGlinchey has sent me genealogy information
on our Durham relatives in Oklahoma. My hopes are that as our
families continue to locate this site through web searches I can
continue to build our family database for future generations.

Richard Durham has asked me to add the following to his web page. Sarah will
be in our prayers Richard.

(Since writing this text Sarah has departed for her second tour of duty in Iraq.
I ask all that read this material please keep her and all our troops in their prayers.
I know that prayer is the only thing we can really do for our children in harm's way here at home.)

I updated the page called "Captain Thomas Woodward a compilation of
historical data and stories" to include the story written by Mary D. Boulware.
This story has been the source of numerous writings and genealogical research
performed on Captain Thomas Woodward.

I attended a Durham Family Reunion in Richburg, S.C. yesterday and
really enjoyed getting to meet Durham relatives that our family had fallen
out of contact with for many many years. Mr. and Mrs. William Durham
have been compiling a very large Durham Family History for many years
since she is a Professional Genealogist. They have visited the records office
in Durham, England and in Port Royal, Bermuda gathering documents related
to our Durham genealogy. I have just started adding many new names to the
family database and will be uploading the new database to the website soon.
I will also be adding many new family historical stories they have compiled over
their many years of research. I have greatly anticipated getting a copy of their
Durham family compilation and have really enjoyed reading the stories contained
within this large binder. In my database and on the web pages I will be creating
the Source will be denoted as "Durham Family History Compilation" until I get exact
names of the Authors of these wonderful stories.

I have updated the family database again. Added Riley and Finklea
relatives. I have also updated the historical Durham relatives page
with the addition of Edward Fant "Bull" Durham who played Major
League baseball for the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.

05/07/05

I have received an email from Donald S. Durham who is also a descendant
of Capt. Charnel Durham through his son Robert Winfield Durham. Ironically
he is also a descendant of Capt. Thomas Woodward through his daughter
Nancy Woodward. I find it truly fascinating the numerous marriages between
the Durham and Woodward families from this area. Don also has some update
information he will be sending me relevant to Capt. Charnel Durham. His records
indicate that Capt. Charnel Durham probably married Ms. Nancy Winfield Eckles
during or after the Revolutionary War and not before the war as my current info.
indicates. I'm looking forward to receiving new source information from Don. :-)

I have updated my Durham family database again correcting errors
on the Woodward family of Fairfield, S.C. My thanks to the Woodward
family researchers for their help. Also I have made contact with a another
Durham relative who is a descendant of Captain Charnel Durham. He and
his wife visited Port Royal, Bermuda conducting research on the Durham
family and I am looking forward to receiving copies of some documents
they collected while visiting the archives. I have changed a link at the bottom
of the page concerning the research of Jo Ann Cooper Killen on the Captain
Thomas Woodward family. I think you will agree that she has conducted
extensive research on this family and I am thankful for her hard work.

03/17/05

I have created a link to Richard Durham's web page at
the bottom of this page. Corrected the relation between Hattie McMaster
Boulware to the Buchanan family. She was the gr-granddaughter of Rachael Buchanan.
Added additional Military record information on Capt. Charnel Durham submitted
by John Crow and Faye Woodward to the Ancestry.com archives.

01/31/05

Richard Durham has emailed me his history of Achilles Durham.
This is not the same Durham family line as mine, however I have
created a page on my site to make this family information of public record.

My Thanks to Mary Lou Wardlaw for providing me with descendants
of Captain J.L. and Eliza W. Wardlaw of Fairfield, S.C. I have added
these relatives to the family database and updated the site.

"James Lewis Wardlaw, son of Francis Hugh Wardlaw, son of James, was born
at Edgefield SC 21 Oct 1844; baptized by Rev. Walker. Attended village
schools, left studies to enlist as private in Capt. Adams' company, then
Col. Abney's Regiment. On death of his brother, Lamar, was made First
Lieut., when only 17 years old, and was subsequently made Captain of his
company. Active member Confederate Veterans' Association, ranking as
Colonel. Moved to Fairfield County in 1866. Joined Baptist Church.
Agent C. C. & A. R.R. Moved to Columbia, and was appointed Supt.
Confederate Veterans' Home, which office he held for several years,
1915-20. He died at Columbia SC March 11, 1928.

On Dec. 18, 1873, he was married by Rev. A. W. Lamar to Lizzie
Woodward, daughter of John W. and Margaret D. Durham of Blythewood,
Fairfield County SC."

"Genealogy of the Wardlaw Family" by Joseph G. Wardlaw,
page 93:

This verifies the marriage of Capt. J.L. and Eliza W. Wardlaw as proven.

I've just completed my web research on a "G.A. Woodward" mentioned
in the Durham family memoir. I have updated my genealogy database
with more relatives and ancestors name from this family line. Many
thanks to those family genealogists who have posted their research
on the web.

10/11/04

In the past week I have found new relatives to add to the family database.
Thanks to the Lamar Family researchers I now have the full name of an
"A.J. Lamar" listed in the family memoir. His name was "Abraham Jones Lamar"
and I have added many new Lamar/ Durham descendants to the database. I have
also discovered the probable name of a " Capt. J. L. Wardlaw of Edgefield, S.C."
His probable name was Captain James Lewis Wardlaw son of Chancellor Francis
Hugh Wardlaw of Edgefield. You can read more about this ongoing research near
the bottom of this page.

I have created a page to archive previous news that I have posted on this site.
Also I am currently comparing notes with other family genealogists in an attempt
to provide as accurate information as humanly possible. I cannot guarantee all of
the information on this site is 100% accurate, however I do please urge you to email
me if you find errors so that I can update the site and my database. Also if you submit
changes to genealogical information I have posted I will need the source information
from which it was obtained.

Many thanks to Shirley Gleicher and Mrs. Ann Marion. They have
provided me with the information to link the Durham's of Colvin-Fant-Durham Farms
to my ancestors. Also I would like to thank George and Susan Mower for their tireless
work in restoring the Farm. It is now called Colvin Farms Bed and Breakfast and
is located in Chester, S.C. The site is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Check the links at the bottom of this page for directions to visit this Historic home.

Just visited the Fairfield Museum and Genealogy dept. in Winnsboro again
a few days ago performing some research on the Captain Thomas Woodward
the Regulator. I guess you've noticed that I have relocated the Durham/ Riley
genealogy page and database to the RootsWeb server due to very limited
webspace on my RoadRunner site. I will be updating the genealogy database
frequently. I would also like to thank Mrs. Pelham Lyles, Linda Malone, and
Mrs. Nancy Lyles Brown at the Fairfield Museum for all their help :-)
