 Lawson A. Bettis, 90, Dies Tuesday

Lawson Anderson Bettis, 90, of Albia died Tuesday at the home of a son, Floyd Bettis, Rte 5, Albia.

He was born March 22, 1874, in Monroe County, the son of Lawson Anderson Bettis Sr. and Elizabeth Fazel bettis. He lived all his life in this county.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd and Marsh Bettis of Albia; nine grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five grear-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, the former Elnor Estlack, who died April 21, 1941, two sisters and six brothers.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at first Methodist Church with pastor, the Rev. Henry Hackman, officiating. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery.

Elnora May Bettis

 Mrs. Bettis Succumbs At Home Near Hiteman

    Mrs. A. Bettis, 65-year-old Monroe County resident, died at her home near Hiteman at 5:30 a. m. today after an illness of several years.
    Born Elnora May Estlack on a farm in Monroe County on Mar. 5, 1876, she had continued to make her home in this vicinity all her life. She married A. Bettis in Albia on Oct. 27, 1894.
    She is survived by her husband, two sons, Floyd and Marsh, four sisters, Mrs. Mary Moore, Mrs. Charles Bettis, Mrs. Ida Gutcher and Mrs. W. M. Peterson, all of Albia, two brothers, George and Sam Estlack, both of Albia, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at the Methodist Church here at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Oak View cemetery.
    The body was taken to the Allen & Lewis funeral home.

 

 Bettis

    Elnora May Bettis, daughter of Elisha Marsh and Rebecca Estlack, was born March 5, 1876 west of Albia, and died April 21, 1941 at her farm home near Hiteman, where she lived the past 39 years, aged 65 years, one month and 18 days.
    On Oct. 27, 1894 she was united in marriage to Lawson Anderson Bettis at Albia. To this union were born two sons, Floyd and Marsh, both of Albia.
    She united with the Methodist church of Albia, April 26, 1926, and was a member at the time of her death. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and two sons, Floyd and Marsh, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Also four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Morris, Mrs. Eva Bettis, Mrs. Ida Gutcher, Mrs. Ethel Peterson, George and Sam Estlack, all of Albia; one sister, Mrs. Inis Scott and one brother, William preceded her in death.
    She was a loving mother, and always enjoyed having her children near her.
    The funeral service was held at the First Methodist church in Albia Wednesday, April 23, 1941, at 2 p. m., with the pastor, the Rev. W. R. Kearsey in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Louise Shriver, with Mrs. Minnie Peterson as organist. The internment was made in Oak View cemetery.
