GREENWOOD, Del. - Dr Richard Williamson Comegys of Greenwood, died Thursday, April 24, l997 at Country Rest Home in Greenwood. He was 89.
Born Sept. 24, 1907, at Millington, Md., he was the son of the late Paul and Mabel Spear Comegys

He received an undergraduate degree at St. Johns College in Annapolis and a medical degree at the University of Maryland Medical School, Baltimore. He entered general practice at Clayton, Del. retiring in 1969, when he moved to Oxford.
Dr. Comegys also served Army Medical Corps in the European Theater during World War: II, as a captain and Battalion Surgeon of 433rd AAA Battalion.

During his semi-retirement, he was a part-time member of the emergency room staff at Kent General Hospital, Dover from 1969 until l974, and a part-time medical physician at Eastern Shore Hospital Center, Cambridge, 1974 until 1980. He was a member of the staff at Kent General Hospital in Dover, a member of the Medical Society of Delaware, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, and the Medical and Chirurgical Society of Maryland.

Dr.Comegys was a member of St. Peter's Church, Smyrna, Del., the Church of the Holy Trinity at Oxford, and Trinity Cathedral in Easton. He also was a member of Talbot County Historical Society, Tred Avon Yacht Club, Oxford Museum, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and a member of the Dickerson Association. He was a member and Jr. Navigation instructor of Miles River Power Squadron


Dr. Comegys is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Lassell Rittenhouse, to whom he was married in 1934; a daughter, Tarun Comegys Johns of Greenville, Maine; three sons, Rev. Richard W. Comegys Jr. of Rochester, N.Y., David R. Comegys of Au Sable Forks, N.Y. and Robert R. Comegys of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Paul R. Comegys of Chestertown; two sisters, Pauline Kaufman of Westminster and Mabel Sullivan of Salisbury; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3 at Church of the Holy Trinity, Oxford.
