Thomas F. Cosgrove

   Thomas Francis Cosgrove, 68, of Route 5 died July 10, 1984 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

   He was born in Ottumwa on Dec. 25, 1915, the son of Thomas F. and Nell Crowley Cosgrove. He lived all his life in the Hiteman and Albia areas. He worked 35 years as a lineman for the Chariton Valley REC.

   He received a Victory Medal in World War II and was a past Commander of the American Legion.

   On Dec. 31, 1937, he married Maxine Bettis in Lovilia. She survives.

   Also surviving are two sons, Michael and Craig, both of Albia; four daughters, Kay Ardith Douglas, Karyn Forsythe and Gene Clark all of Albia, and Debbie Shehan of Melrose; 23 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sister, Mary Jo Wood of Cedar Rapids and Margaret Lindmark of Phoenix Ariz.

    Preceding him in death were one son, Chris, and one brother.

    The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at trinity United Methodist Church with Revs. Marvin Lindley and Philip Cardenzana officiating. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery. Geyer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements

   A memorial has been established to the new Sports Complex.

    Maxine Bretrell Cosgrove, 84 of Albia, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
    She was born Feb. 8, 1918, to Floyd A. and Edna Mae Stewart Bettis in rural Monroe County. She married Thomas F. Cosgrove on Dec. 31, 1937 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia. He died July 10, 1984. She was a graduate of Albia High School, class of 1935. She had worked at the Blue Bird Cafe in Albia, the Ver'Baere Photo Studio in Albia, and the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Albia, the Care Review Committee of the Monroe Care Center in Albia, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. She had also been very active in 4-H in Monroe County where she was a past leader of the Troy Good Homemakers Club.
    She is survived by four daughters, Kay Douglas, Karyn Forsythe and husband Ray, Gene Clark and husband J.D., all of Albia, and Debbie Shehan of Bussey; one son, Michael Cosgrove and wife Carol of Albia; and one daughter-in-law, Kay Cosgrove of Albia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Craig and Chris Cosgrove; one granddaughter, Kamarie; two brothers, Kenneth and Herbert Bettis; and one sister, Delores Preston.
Visitation will be open after 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Winfield Funeral Home in Albia, with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday evening.
    Memorials may be made to the Albia Public Library or to the Monroe County Sports Complex.
    Winfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
