Former police chief, John Douglas Dies

Former Chief of Police John L. Douglas, 56, of Albia, died Monday at Monroe County Hospital.

Douglas was a lifelong resident of Albia and had served as a member of the Albia Police Department beginning in 1958. He was promoted to Chief of Police in 1966 and served in that capacity until his retirement from the force in 1979.

Prior to his joining the police department, Douglas served with the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He more recently worked as a parts man at Goff and Nash.

 God hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.

But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy
Undying love . . .
