Introduction
Welcome to my husband's GORDON family history. Two brothers, James and John Gordon emigrated to the Colony of Virginia from County Down, Ireland. They were sons of James Gordon of Sheepbridge in the Barony of Newry, County Down, Ireland, and his wife, Sarah Greenway. James Gordon emigrated to America around 1738 and settled in Lancaster County, Virginia, at Merry Point on the Corotoman River, a tributary of the Rappahannock River. John Gordon emigrated to America before 1756 and settled at Urbanna, a port of entry on the south side of the Rappahannock River in Middlesex County, Virginia. Both brothers were successful merchants in the Colony of Virginia.
