My paternal grandfather was Orrin Wilson Dunton
of Hampden, Maine. The genealogy of this Dunton line is well established back
to Samuel Dunton who lived in Reading, Massachusetts in the mid 1600's. Samuel
married Hannah Felch, daughter of Reading pioneer Henry Felch and established
the line leading to the Hampden Duntons. My paternal grandmother was Nettie
Parker of Glenburn, Maine daughter of Hiram N. Parker who was born in Bradley,
Maine. Three of her brothers, along with at least one cousin, went to Colorado
to work in the timber industry near Leadville. Ernest was killed in a lumbering
accident in Colorado; Frank later went to Alaska and died there. I am named
after the third brother, Philip, who returned to Glenburn to work on the farm
and drowned in Pushaw Lake in 1916. My goals are to establish when and
under what auspices Samuel Dunton came to North America and to establish the
family line of Hiram Parker.
