The Photograph below of the Volunteer Long Service Medal was awarded to Charles Thomas Spanswick in 1894.

From T.M.D. Ball at the London Irish Regimental Museum in Chelsea (letters dated 2nd Sept 1998 and 28th August 1998) "Sgt. Spanswick resigned from the London Irish on 27th July, 1893, but as the qualifying date for the Medal was 1st January, 1893, he was one of the first to receive it for the year 1894. The Medal was instituted on 1st June, 1894." "He was in "I" Company as the London Irish Volunteer Rifles Corps (VRC) consisted ten companies with a total of over 1,000 men" and his regimental number was 2370. "At a London Irish Smoking Concert on 18th April, 1893, he acted as a steward as the recently retired Mr. Spanswick. This does not agree with the above offical date but a three month wait for the paperwork to be completed is possible."

This medal was sold on ebay 21st October 2009.
