Dublin - Saturday, Oct.13.
At a very early hour of Thursday morning, the windmill of Messrs.Roe and Co. Marrowbone-lane, was discovered to be on fire. The flames commenced in some part of the machinery connected with the mill-stones, and assumed, in a few minutes, a most terrific appearance, threatening immediate ruin on the premises, and to the adjoining houses. Providentially the fire-engines of the different English Insurance-Companies arrived at the spot in time to prevent the conflagration from exceeding beyond the first story.

We are concerned to hear that a fire broke out on Thursday morning at the extensive Woollen Factory of Messrs.Atkinson, Haughton, and Atkinson, at Celbridge. We have not heard the extent of the damage.

On Friday se'nnight, a gentleman, who we understand to be Col.O'Donovan, posting from Clonmel to Clogheen, was stopped beyond Ardfinnan, by a highwayman, well armed, who robbed him of all the cash he had. On the arrival of the Colonel at Clogheen, he took out a party of the military to the spot, and commenced a search but without being able to discover the offender.

On Friday, the 5th inst. about eight o'clock in the evening, a number of armed ruffians attacked Major Kelly's house at Ballyknockin, demanding admittance, and insisting on getting gunpowder. Luckily, at the time the outer doors were fastened, and Major Kelly instantly armed himself, and proceeding up stairs, opened a window in order to fire our at the assailants, which he had no sooner done, than one of the villains calling out to him "take care, Sir !" discharged his piece at him, Major Kelly received several grains of gunpowder in his face; he then marked the man and levelled at him, but unfortunately his piece missed fire : and cowardly ruffians, on the attempt of resistance, immediately fled. In the attack there was a strange mixture of rashness and cowardice; for the villains made the attempt with the previous knowledge that, besides Major Kelly and Mr.Lennon, also a military gentleman, there were two soldier servants, and another faithful determined domestic, and that they were all amply provided with arms.

Derry, Oct.9.- On Friday last the King's County Militia proceeded from their parade-ground to the Cathedral, where their new Colours were consecrated with the usual ceremony; after which a most excellent and appropriate discourse was delivered by the Reverend Mr.Grattan, from Joshua, c.xxii. v.11.- "Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the Lord your God." - The Mayor and Corporation, accompanied by the City Regalia, attended Divine Service on the occasion, and added considerably to the solemnity of the scene.
The Main Guard has been removed from the Diamond to the barracks outside the gates. The old guard-house we understand, is to be converted into a Post Office, where a nightly watch, composed of constables, is to be established during the winter. We trust this measure will be carried effectually into execution : if so the inhabitants will feel more secure than heretofore, having the aid of the military without and of the civil power within the walls. - L.Der.Journal.
