Journal of the VOTES of the General Assembly of the Colony of New York.

Die Mercurij, ,Sept. 8. 1731.
THE Deputy Clerk of the Council brought from the President and Council, a Letter from his Excellency Jonathan Belcher Esq; Governor of the Massachusets, to our late Governor John Montgomerie Esq; dated in Boston the 5th of July last, relating to the settling of a Partition Line between that Government and this, which being read,
Ordered, That the same lie on the Table for the Members to peruse.

Die Jovis, September 9. 1731.
The Petition of Thomas Brain, Surgeon; was presented to the House and read, setting forth. That by Order of his late Excellency John Montgomerie Esq; deceased, he did at divers times supply the Garrison at Oswego with sundry Drugs, Medicines and other things, as by an Account before the House, and an Account of a further Supply, by Order of his Honour, the President, may appear, for which the Petitioner has paid, and engaged to pay the greatest Part; he therefore humbly prays this House to make such Provision for Payment of his said Accounts, as they deem agreeable to Justice.
Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee appointed to consider of the Bill, entitled, An Act to support the Troops at Oswego, and to regulate the Indian Trade there.

Mr. Livingston from the Committee of this House appointed to meet a Committee of the Council in order to prepare a Draught of a proper Representation from the President, the Council and General Assembly, to his Majesty, on the Subject Matter, as mentioned the first instant, did report, that both Committees had prepared and agreed on such a Representation accordingly, and presented a Copy thereof to the House, which being read, was approved by the House, and
Ordered, That four Copies of the same be fairly engrossed.

Falmouth, Oct. 30. Came in the 29th from cruising his Majesty's Ship the Gosport, Capt. Drake; the Townshend Pacquet Boat, Capt. Cooper, from Corunna in five days. Wind W.S.W.
Dartmouth, Oct. 31. Sailed this day the Lamb, James Jennet, from Cork for Roan; the William and Mary of this Place, Cox, for London; the Hunter of London, Tizard, from S. Christopher's for Amsterdam. Came in Brigantine from North Yarmouth with Red Herrings for Marseilles; and an Irish Vessel from ..... , their Names in my next. Remain the Dutch Doggers ; the Pearl, Diamond, for Seville; the Mary, Campion, from London for Cadiz; the Vineyard, Greedier, from London for Oporto: the Dove of Biddiford from Exon for Bilbao.
Lynn, Nov 1. Arrived since the 15th of October last the Anne, John Morris, from Rotterdam; Walpole, Robert Read, from Gottemburg; James and Anne, James Barcock[?]; Wat and Mary, Stephen Reynolds; and the John, John Holmes, all three from Norway. The Wisbeech of Wisbeech, Samuel Norris, and the Lynn Merchant of this Place, are loading Corn here for Portugal, and will sail in a short time.
Poole, Nov, 1. Arrived the William, Cleaves; Poole, Scot; Desire, Bolling; and the Two Friends Adventure, Morris, from Newfoundland; the Rachel and Hannah, King, from Milford.
Bristol, Nov. 1. This Evening arrived the Helena from Jamaica, but as no Person nor any Letters are come from her, can say no more until my next.
Cowes, Nov.1. On the 30th of the last, Month came in the Cornelia Galley, Vanderkerj[?] from Surinam for Amsterdam; the S. Dominic, Jullee, from Boulogne, for Rochel ; 31, Baron, Lebain, from Lannally for Alderney.
Deal, Nov 2 . Wind W. moderate Weather. All the outward bound in my last remain, with the Success Man of War. Arrived yesterday the Henry and Mary of Whitby, Capt. Walker, from Virginia; the Elizabeth from Dublin; and ....., Grice, from Liverpoole for Malden in Essex. This Morning the Deal Castle Man of War and near Twenty Sail of homebound Ships sailed for the River, amongst whom is the Five Sisters, Holmes, from Jamaica.
Gravesend, Nov. 3. Arrived the S. Michael, Evans, from Dunkirk; Three Brothers, Yeomans, from Maryland.

LONDON November 4.

We hear the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, at their Court on Tuesday last, ordered the Sum of �30 to be given to the poor Sufferers by Fire at Blandford, Tiverton and Ramsey; and it is hoped that the other Companies that have not already been so charitable, will follow their good Example.
Since the Committee appointed by the Common Council of this City for the Distribution of the Moneys collected for the said poor Sufferers met, and disposed of �3000. of the �3177. then paid into the Chamber of London, (as mention'd in this Paper of the 16th of October Iast) Sir Robert Baylis, Alderman of Breadstreet Ward, paid in �150. for the said Ward; and yesterday another Sum was paid in for the same good Purpose.
This day his Grace the Duke of Somerset is expected in Town from Newmarket, to assist at a meeting of the Governors of the Charter-house, which is to be held to morrow on particular Affairs.
The Rectory of Stanwick in Northamptonshire is lately become void by the Death of the Rev Dr. Needham, the last Incumbent; and we hear the Presentation is in the Gift of the Lord Chancellor.

Yesterday Numb. 71,830 came up a Prize of �3000. in the present State Lottery.
There were also drawn four single �100. Prizes, and two hundred and thirty three �20. Prizes.
Numb. 60,784, which came up a Prize of �5000. in the said Lottery on Friday last, fell to Mr. Heathcote, Nephew to Sir Gilbert Heathcote.
We are very well assured that the Lottery will draw this day and to morrow the full time as usual.

Last Night the Lord Chancellor sat late upon Exceptions, at his House in Lincoln's Inn fields, and this day his Lordship sits again upon Exceptions.

On Tuesday Night between Seven and Eight o'Clock a Gentleman was attacked near Montagu House in Great Russel Street, Bloomsbury, by a Street Robber, who clap'd a Pistol to his Breast, and robbed him of his Money and Sword. As the Rogue was making off, the Gentleman cry'd out Stop Thief; and a young Man coming by, tript up his Heels, and seized him, and being carried before Justice Midford, he was committed to Newgate.

It is written from Cowes in the Isle of Wight, that on the 1st of November two Men were take up on Suspicion of stealing a large Gray Gelding, and a Black Mare, supposed to be the same Persons, as were advertised in the S Jame's Evening Post of Saturday last, they having such Marks as were therein described.

Yesterday Morning died Mr. Joseph Travers, an Insurance Broker in Exchange Alley.

To-morrow being the 5th of November, a Charity Sermon will be preach'd' at S. Anne's within Aldersgate, in the Forenoon, by the Rev. Mr. Smith, Lecturer of S.Giles's in the Fields, for the Benefit of 50 poor Children.

AT his OFFICE, over-against Jonathan's Coffee-House in Exchange Alley, Cornhill; where, during the drawing of the Lottery, will be kept, very correct Numerical and Register Books, that any Person may every Day know if their Tickets are drawn; and for paying 6 d. per Ticket may have their Numbers register'd, and when drawn, either Blank or Prize, shall have immediate Notice if in Town, or to any Part or Great Britain by the first Post.
And for the quicker Dispatch, I have two Numerical Books open to examine at, and as the utmost Care has been taken to procure the best Hands to take the Numbers in the Hall, as well as to post them in the Numerical Books; and my Clerks having Places appointed them near the Wheels upon the in Guildhall; I promise myself to be to exact in my Numbers, as to give a general Satisfaction.
N. B. The Drawing of the Lottery continues at Guildhall this Morning at Nine o'Clock and for the Conveniency of such Persons as live at Westminster End of the Town, I have open'd a Register and Numerical Book at Jonathan's Coffee house by S. James's Gate, where Tickets may be register'd, examined, and Chances of Tickets Sold.

Schemes are given gratis in English or French.




This to give Notice,

THAT Thomas Ellys, French Wine-Merchant, in Seething. Lane, Tower Street, London, has lately imported a Parcel of excellent good old neat Brandy, and will sell it exactly neat as it is landed at the Keys, without any Adulteration, (as is practised by many People) at Six Shillings and Six Pence per Gallon ready Money, for any Parcel not less than five Gallons, and on the Keys by Wholesale, he will sell it something cheaper. He has provided a very large Parcel that is coming over, of which he will give Notice in this and other Papers of their Arrival, that they may be tasted on the Keys, where all Persons may be assured there is no Fraud in the Proposal, and will constantly continue to supply the Town with the same good and neat Brandies.
N.B. Mr. Ellys will give Attendance at his House in Seething-Lane every day till Twelve o'Clock at Noon, and from Twelve till Two to be spoke with at the Pensilvania Coffee House in Birchin-Lane, Cornhill.

Note, There are convenient Apartments for Gentlemen to learn in private, without coming into the Publick-School.




WHEREAS it is customary for Coffee-Houses and other Publick Houses to take of their customers 8s. for a Quart of Arrack, and 6s. for a Quart of Brandy or Rum made into Punch; so that it is now become the settled Price throughout the Town, and seldom less than a Bowl of 1s. 6d. is to be had; therefore, for the better accommodating of Gentlemen that are Lovers of Punch,

This is to give Notice,

That James Ashley has opened on Ludgate Hill, the London Coffee House, Punch House, Dorchester Beer, and Welch Ale Warehouse, where the finest and best old Arrack, Rum, and French Brandy is made into Punch, with the other of the finest Ingredients, viz. a Quart of Arrack made into Punch for 6s. and so in Proportion to the smallest Quantity, which is Half a Quarteen for Fourpence Halfpenny; a Quart of Rum or Brandy made into Punch for 4s. and so in Proportion to the smallest Quantity, which is Half a Quartern for Threepence, and Gentlemen may have it as soon made as a Gill of Wine can be drawn.

Neat old Arrack, Rum, and French Brandy by wholesale on the most reasonable Terms.




Foreign Brandy and Rum neat as Imported at the Wine Vaults under the Royal Exchange in Cornhill, right against Pope's Head Alley.
