INTRODUCTION.
The collection consists of c.823 Extracts and full Transcripts of mainly English and Irish, Georgian and early Victorian Regional Newspapers (85 Added during 2008). Most of the material won't be found anywhere else on the Web, and can bring you face to face with your ancestors and their world. All counties covered but principally Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, London, Lancashire Middlesex, Surrey, Worcestershire, & Wiltshire. Well in excess of 100,000 names, forming one of the largest collections of Free English and Irish Newspaper Transcripts on the Web.
To make the reports as accessable as possible for users, since 2006, FreeFind has been used to index the site (you can use " " or wildcard * to locate references). Just type in the name or place or even term of interest, and you'll be directed to the relevant page, once on the page, to locate the report which interests you, use "CTRL F" and enter the word(s) you are seeking.
*** Basic reminders for successful searching *** Please consider spelling may have changed Solihull may appear as Solyhull. Do check spelling its easy to make a typo - "Buckinghamshire" is fine, but "Buckingmanshire" may miss the results you seek. In general the wider the better so searching for "George Washington" you will get some results, but "Washington" will cover all the bases. And finally to add date range ends at 1876 ! so sadly searching for an event from 1915 won't be successful.
I also take full credit for any errors, so if you think you've found an error please feel free to email me with details and "Local Newspaper Index" in the title and I'll investigate and amend.
Best of luck, I hope you find the transcripts interesting.
