Monday, April 11th, 1757.






Salisbury, April 11, 1757.

On Tuesday last William Simmonds was committed to our County Goal, by the Mayor of Marlborough, for breaking open the Shop of Andrew Milsom, of that Borough, in the Night-Time, and stealing diverse Goods.
On Wednesday Edward Dubber was committed to the said Goal, by Mr. Justice Batson, for stealing a Ewe Sheep, the Property of Lord Bruce.
On Thursday Thomas Dubber was committed to the same, for being concerned with John Pearce and Samuel Jones in stealing a Weather Sheep the Property of Roger Spanswick, of Chilton-Foliot. And
On Friday John Bazor was also committed to the Goal aforesaid, by Edward Younge, Esq; for stealing a black Mare, the Property of Hannah White, of Castle Combe.
And Yesterday was brought to the said Goal, committed by R. Willoughby, Esq; Richard Welch of Meer, for assaulting John Bealing of Gillingham in the County of Dorset, last Thursday Night between 11 and 12 o'Clock, in a Meadow at Silton, in this County, and there robbing him of 8 Guineas, and 9 thirty six shilling Pieces in Gold, and half a Crown in Silver.

At MIDSUMMER next,

THE GEORGE-INN in Poole, being a well accustomed Inn, situate in the High-Street, near the Corn-Market; with a large Backside and good Stabling, and a large Cellar, with a convenient Wash-House and Brew-house; now in the Occupation of William Hosier, and late of John Stanworth, deceased.

The Houshold Goods and Furniture will be sold reasonably, with a large Furnace, Brewing Utensils and Casks, and a good Tenant will meet with all due Encouragement.

I Do hereby publickly declare, That what I said of Mr. RICHARDS of Winfrith, in Dorsetshire, concerning the Turnpike, was spoke in Heat; for which I am very sorry, and heartily ask his Pardon.

A COCK MATCH.

ON Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the 25th, 26th, and 27th Instant, will be fought a Main of COCKS, at Mr. BARRS, at the Crown and Castle, in Winchester. The Gentlemen of Berkshire and Wiltshire against the Gentlemen of Hampshire. To shew sixty-two Cocks on each Side, for six Guineas a Battle, and one hundred Guineas the Odd Battle.

STOLEN or STRAY'D,

ON Saturday Morning the 2d Inst, from Odstock near Salisbury, a dark Forest Gelding, about twelve Hands High, Hogg Maned and marked with the Figure of a Heart, the place where, not remembered - Whoever will be so kind as to give Intelligence thereof to the Printer of this Paper, or to Mr. Batt the Miller of Odstock, shall have sufficient Satisfaction for his Trouble and any reasonable Charges Paid.




WHEREAS Sarah Matthews of the Borough of Malmsbury in the County of Wilts, who Travels the Country with Lace, was by Elizabeth Tedd of Malmsbury aforesaid, upwards of five Months since intrusted with Lace to the Value of 12 Pounds and upwards, and Whereas the said Sarah Matthews has not been heard of since, whoever will give Intelligence to the aforesaid Elizabeth Tedd where the said Sarah Matthews is so that she may receive her Goods of Money for the same, shall receive half a Guinea Reward; the said Sarah Matthews is about 24 Years of Age, middle Stature, and had on when she went away, a Plad Camblet Gown, black Hat, and black Hair, and is of a dark Complexion.

WHEREAS the Sign of the Swan that hung up before the Door of William Price Publican at Newtontony, was on Thursday the 18th of February last in the Night Time Stolen and carry'd away, and on the 23d of March last, the Sign Post was cut down, and at the same Time a large Quantity of Greens was Stolen out of the Garden of William Price's.

This is to give NOTICE.

That if any one will discover the Person or Persons who committed one or both of the said Robberies so as he or they may be brought to Justice, shall receive five Guineas Reward for so doing to be paid by me

To be Peremptorily Sold

(Together or in Lots), Pursuant to an Order of the High Court of Chancery, on Wednesday the 4th Day of May next, between the Hours of 10 in the Forenoon and 2 in the Afternoon, at the House of John Mc. Min, the Sign of the Turk's Head in Andover in the County of Southampton, before the Major Part of the Commissioners, named in a Commission of Bankruptcy, awarded against Robert Piper, of the same Place, Tanner :
HIS redeemable Interest in a dwelling House and Tan-Yard, late in his own Occupation; a Messuage or Tenement in the Occupation of the Rev. Mr. Cumming; a little Tenement adjoining, and a Meadow and Garden, of about an Acre, contiguous to the said Tan-Yard, all situate in Andover aforesaid - For Particulars enquire of Messrs. Bunny and Wakeford, Assignees of the said Bankrupt's Estate at Andover aforesaid.

A Report having prevailed, that the Small-Pox was much in this Town, we, whose Names are hereunto subscribed, do certify that this Place is now, and had been intirely free from that Distemper for two Months past.

MRS CLEM, Widow, being removed from the ANGEL-INN, in Warminster, Wilts, to LORD WEYMOUTH'S ARMS, in the same Town, which is now fitted up in the most convenient and commodious Manner, with a large Addition of the House late in the Possession of Miss Green, Millener; where she humbly hopes to have the Continuance of the Favours of her present Friends and Customers, and where all Noblemen, Ladies, Gentlemen, Tradesmen, &c. may depend upon the most civil and obliging Usage.
