Monday, March 16th, 1812




To be Sold, (the property of a Gentleman deceased), - A Pair of fine young Coach-Horses, both six weeks old; they are in high condition, and well worth the attention of any person who is in want of Horses fir for immediate work. Enquire of Mr.Farr's, coachmaker, Salisbury, or at the Bull Inn, Downton.

They can be viewed from the 19th to the 28th of the present month.




Salisbury.

All Persons who have any claims or demand on the Estate of the late Mr.Thomas Harris, of the City of New Sarum, are desired immediately to deliver an account thereof; and such as are indebted to the said Estate are requested to pay the same to Mr.Thos.Staples or Mr.J.C.Wheeler, of Salisbury, his Executors.




Notice To Debtors And Creditors

All Persons indebted to the Estate of Henry Henning, the younger, late of Lymington, in the county of Southampton, Watchmaker, are requested to pay their respective debts immediately to Mr.Benjamin Hall Brown, solicitor, Lymington. - And all persons having any demands on the said Hen.Henning, the younger, are requested to send their respective accounts immediately to the said Benjamin Hall Brown.

Isle of Wight.
Notice to Debtors and Creditors.

All Persons indebted to the Estate of Mrs.Anstes Gosden, late of Shorwell, in the county of Hants, Shop-keeper, deceased, are requested forthwith to pay the amount of their respective debts to Mr.Henry Way, at Westcourt, sole executor named and appointed in and by the will of the said deceased. All persons who have any demands on the said estate are desired to send an account thereof to the said executor, in order that the same may be discharged.




Final Dividend

The Creditors who have proved their debts under the Commission issued against Merritt Carter, late of Zeals, in the parish of Mere, Wilts, linen draper, &c. a Bankrupt, may receive a final dividend of Five Pence in the Pound, on applying at the office of Mr.Seymour, solicitor, Mere, on the 17th instant, or any day afterwards.




Gentlemen Farmers and others wanting Ponds made for Sheep or other Cattle, may have them with Chalk and Lime, or Clay, on reasonable terms, and warranted good for seven years, by applying to Robert Chown, Quidhampton, near Salisbury, Wilts.

N.B. Gentlemen wanting Coach or other Road made, or ground moved by the yard or lump, may depend upon having it done well, at moderate prices, by applying as above.




Winchester,
Saturday, March 14.

The first County Court of Thomas Thistlethwayte, Esq. High Sheriff of this county, was holden on Wednesday last, at the Castle of Winchester, when the usual proclamations were made and the deputies for granting Replevins and other offices, appointed for the ensuing year.- Mr.John Astell, of this city was appointed County Clerk.

Last week died, after many years affliction, in her 41st year, Mrs.Sanders, wife of Mr.Rob.Sanders, a respectable brewer, of Southampton.

The nine capital convicts left for execution at the late Assizes still continue under their sentences, which will be carried into effect on Saturday next, the 21st instant.

Thomas Smart, for stealing a flitch of bacon out of the house of R.N.Lee, Esq. at Coldrey, - and G.H.Brisac, for obtaining money under false pretences, - are this week committed to the County Gaol for trial.




Salisbury,
Monday, March 18, 1812.

Mr.Paul Methuen proceeds actively in his canvass of this county , with so full a prospect of success, that he is now generally looked up to as our future Representative in Parliament. He last week canvassed Salisbury, Melksham, Warminster, Devizes, and other parts of the intervening neighbourhood.

On Thursday last Robert Griffiths, Esq., of Marlborough, transmitted to the Treasurer of the Salisbury Infirmary, from a Gentleman unknown, a benefaction of fifty pounds.
And on Saturday the Rev.Chancellor Douglas paid into the hands of the Treasurer of the Salisbury Infirmary a benefaction of twenty-five pounds.

The Provost and Fellows of Queen's College, Oxford, have presented the Rev.H.Barry, M.A. senior Fellow of the Michell Foundation, to the Rectory of Upton Scudamore, in this county, vacant by the death of the Rev.T.Owen.

On the 3d inst. Joseph Pitt, Esq. of Cirencester, in Gloucestershire, and of Estcourt, in this county, was elected High Bailiff of Malmesbury, by the Aldermen and Burgesses of that borough, on the resignation of Edmund Estcourt, Esq. who after holding the office for many years, has now retired from ill health.

On Wednesday the Rev.John Joseph Goodenough, M.A. was elected by the Major and Corporation of Bristol, Head Master of the Free Grammar School in that city.




On Thursday married at Damerham, by the Rev.A.Davidson, Mr.Aylon, of Southampton, to Miss Tiller, daughter of the late Mr.Tiller, of Court Farm, Damerham.
Lately died, at Antigua, of a fever, in the prime of life, Mr.Thomas Walker, ordinance storekeeper in that Island.
A few days since died, of a decline, at Steepleton, near Dorchester, in her 20th year, Miss Luckham, to the regret of all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance.
On the 29th ult.died at Mitcham, in Surrey, Capt.James Garth, late of the 94th regiment, and son of the late Charles Garth, Esq. formerly M.P. for Devizes.
Died on the 8th inst. at Child Okeford, aged 23 years, the Rev.Richard Colmer Rogers, D.D. Rector of Bellehalwell and Stoke Wake, Dorset.

Local Militia - According to the return made to the House of Commons, the number of the whole Local Militia force, enrolled and serving at the late period of training and exercise, was 10,189 serjeants, 9,959 corporals, 5,237 drummers, and 202,923 privates.

The business of the Wilts Assizes commenced here on Monday, before Mr.Justice Chambre and Mr.Baron Graham, and ended on Tuesday.

Three prisoners were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death, viz. John Forty, alias Broad, for breaking into the house of Mrs.Alice Blake, in the parish of Milford, near this city, and there stealing a red leather pocket-book, &c. - John Moody, for breaking open and entering the dwelling-house of Joseph Gillingham, at Britford, and stealing several Bank of England and Andover Bank notes, a promissory note for �150, and a pinchbeck watch, from the dwelling-house of Mr.James Martin, in Collingbourn Ducis.- They were all reprieved before the Judges left the city.

James England was convicted of stealing a large quantity of underwood, at Alderbury, and sentenced to pay a fine of 1s, and be kept at hard labour in the house of correction at Devizes for 12 calendar months.- The like sentence was also passed on Philip Rouse, convicted of breaking open the house of T.Merritt, of Dantsey, and stealing three guineas in gold, 26s in silver, two gold rings, a pair of shoes, &c.

William Painter, for stealing a quantity of elm board, from an orchard at Porton, fined 1s, and to be kept to hard labour six months in Devizes Bridewell.

Sarah Sims, for stealing a shirt, two frills, three handkerchiefs, four towels, and a pair of gloves, from the house of Elizabeth Fast, school-mistress, at Laycock, - Wm.Sadler and Thomas Russell, for stealing a quantity of beans from the house of Messrs.Waldron, at Trowbridge, - no Bill found.

Thomas Cole, committed on suspicion of sheep-stealing, - Elizabeth Usher, Diane Usher, and Sarah Butt, charged with stealing nine parcels of copper tokens from the counting house of Messrs.Waldron, at Trowbridge, - no Bill found.

John Yeats, indicted for wilful and corrupt perjury, - and Sarah Bower, charged with having stolen a 3s Bank token from the person of John Read, at Milford, - were acquitted.

Thomas Provis, committed on a charge of horse-stealing, in Somersetshire, is removed to take his trial in that county.

The case which excited the greatest public attention was that of James Deacon, committed (with Elizabeth Deacon) on a charge of having stolen a parcel from the old Taunton Coach, containing notes of the Yeovil and Wincanton Bank to the value of �2000, the property of Messrs.Whitmarsh, Brown, and White. Every preparation for the trial seemed to have been carefully made; twenty-three witnesses were in attendance; but when the trial was about to be called on, the Counsel for the prosecution applied to the Court for it to stand over, one material witness being still absent. The Judge expressed his willingness to acquiesce to the proposal, Deacon declared he was ready to take his trial, stated his long confinement and the hardship of continuing him in prison for a further indefinite period, and claimed that either the trial should go on, or that he should be admitted to bail. The Court acquiesced, and admitted him to bail, himself in a recognizance of �1000 and four sureties in the sum of �200 each.

Edward Daniels, late of Compton Basset, is committed to the County Gaol, Fisherton, charged with having stolen and carried away, at various times, quantities of thrashed wheat, &c. the property of Cornelius Large.

N.Sims, Milliner, Dress and Corset-Maker, Square, Winchester, respectfully begs to offer to the Ladies of Winchester and its vicinity her New Invented Corsets, which, she venture to assert, ladies will find on trial to exceed any they have before met with.

ANGLING.

Those Gentlemen who are fond of Angling are respectfully informed, a large and new assortment of the most killing FLIES adapted to the Western Rivers, with Rods, Lines, and every other Material, of the first quality necessary for Fly and Troling Fishing, are received and sold at Mr.Guest's Warehouse, in the High-street, Salisbury; where orders from the country, &c. are punctually attended to, at the London prices.




John Wilkins, Corn Factor, and Seedsman, Warminster, returns thanks to his Friends and the Public for their many favours conferred upon him, solicits their kind continuance, and assures them it will be his constant endeavour to merit their support.




Basingstoke Canal Navigation & Land Conveyance, from Basingstoke to Andover, Salisbury, &c.

John Lowman begs leave to inform his friends and the public in general, that he has Removed his Barges to Bull-Wharf, Queen-Hythe; and earnestly solicits those favourable towards him to be very particular in giving their orders in London accordingly.

A Barge loads every Thursday.
